-▶ GENETICALLY MODIFIED Bt FOOD TOXIN FOUND IN THE BLOOD OF 95% OF UNBORN BABIES - NEW STUDY. The new study was carried out by independent doctors at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, at the University of Sherbrooke Hospital Centre in Quebec, Canada. Traces of Bt toxin were found in the blood of 93 per cent of the pregnant mothers – 28 out of 30. It was also found in 80 per cent of the umbilical cords – 24 out of 30.
In the non-pregnant group, traces were found in the blood of 69 per cent – 27 out of 39. It is thought the toxin is getting into the human body as a result of eating meat, milk and eggs from farm livestock fed GM corn.
The Canadian team told the scientific journal Reproductive Toxicology: ‘This is the first study to highlight the presence of pesticides associated with genetically modified foods in maternal, foetal and non-pregnant women’s blood.’.. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-1388888/GM-food-toxins-blood-93-unborn-babies.html

The widespread use of wildlife-harming neonicotinoid pesticides is failing to deliver promised benefits to agricultural production, according to a study published today in the academic journal Environmental Science and Pollution Research.

The global assessment of 200 scientific studies by the International Task Force on Systemic Pesticides found that use of neonicotinoids over the past two decades has inflicted serious damage to birds, pollinators and other insects without generally increasing yields.

“This study should be the final nail in the coffin for these dangerous pesticides here in the U.S.,” said Lori Ann Burd, director of the Center for Biological Diversity’s environmental health program. “It’s mindboggling that while much of Europe and Canada are limiting the use of these poisons, the U.S. EPA is considering expanding their use across millions of acres.”

The study shows neonicotinoids can be phased out to protect pollinators and aquatic invertebrates without harming agricultural productivity; research also shows that farmers benefit from integrated pest management practices such as crop rotation and biological controls.

India is swiftly changing its policy of self-reliance in food production. Despite claiming a bumper production in recent years, the government has encouraged import of agricultural produces. More importantly, it has allowed import of cereals like wheat, maize and non-basmati rice. The volume of import of these grains increased by 110 times between 2014 and 2017. Farmers who produce them are at the centre of the current crisis because they are the worst hit by the fall in the prices caused by the import.

The six trends driving a record-breaking year for UK organic food and drink | Organic Farming | Scoop.it

Healthiness: Consumers want products that are natural and less processed foods, give energy or sustenance and meet specific dietary needs, such as free-from foods.
Taste and inspiration: The quality of a product as being central to how good it tastes.
Fits around me: Consumers’ lives are busy and hectic. Shopping and making food is time consuming and so consumers try to achieve a balance between price, quantity, quality, time to prepare and tastes everyone will love.
Pleasure: Most consumers allow themselves some products that are more special, indulgent, a ‘treat’, or that deliver more flavour.
Value: Value is a personal ‘equation’ consisting of price, quality and convenience, and the importance of each factor varies - sometimes even for the same individual. For example, he or she might buy organic vegetables but non-organic meat.
Making a statement: Consumers often buy products because the food and/or packaging look beautiful. This increases their appetite or gives them something to talk to their friends about.

Did you know that mother Nature has created plants that protect crops in your garden from pests so no pesticides are needed? People have always grown food and decades ago no one thought to use any poisonous chemicals.

Pesticides, herbicides, fungicides are all toxic chemicals created for the industrial monoculture agricultural systems of today. These dangerous poisons kill indiscriminately both beneficial and predatory insects.

Many of them cause environmental problems, human health problems, and they create a continuing cycle of humans needing to use more of them to kill the new invasive weeds they have spawned.

Health Tips:
When in doubt always refer to nature’s flowers and herbs as your go to source. This article has a super great list for you to choose from.

Did you know that what industry wants (Big AG, Big Food, Big Pharma, and Chemical companies) usually prevail over the needs of consumers and the safety of food, water, air for Americans?

Money talks over common sensibility and decency.

You see this all the time with misleading marketing,

Brand Companies use of synthetic, artificial, and harmful chemical ingredients that most European countries ban, and then there’s GMOs and now GMO.2 with gene-editing, lab created products, and the opioid epidemic with a proliferation of dangerous addictive brain damaging drugs, and the list goes on.

Let’s not forget the harmful chemicals and pollutants that affect your drinking water and the air you breathe. It seems like when there’s a major crises that’s when action is taken.

Otherwise it’s business as usual for chemical companies. You the American Public are on the lower end of the divide.

Then there’s the CAFOs harmful cruel agricultural farming practices and the use of planting one crop year after year which creates dead soil. When is enough enough?

When are all of us going to wake up and work together as one for solutions? It’s not just the health of our planet, it’s the health of all of people and animals.

Health tips:
The best thing you can do is consume as much plant based real whole food as is possible. Limit your use of processed, chemical, artificial stuff.

Use water filtration in your home, business, in college, wherever you reside. This curation site recommends Multipure Drinking water Systems.

If the air quality is poor in your area, use masks, air purifiers, stay inside. Continue to petition your local and State elected officials. Help your neighbors and the elderly when a crisis occurs.

Shop for what you need, not what you want. Landfills and the oceans have more than enough junk and plastic, which never degrades. Adopt the slogan “Less is More” and make it work for you.

Did you know that there are Mother Earth natural ways to help build fertile living soil for your garden? Plants grow best in the soil without using any chemical fertilizers which destroy soil and harm plant nutrients.

Health Tips:

Depending on your location, you can grow your garden at anytime of the year. Here in the northern hemisphere gardens will be going into the Fall season where root veggies and winter squashes can be harvested.

If you have a little greenhouse or cold frame you can still grow veggies for planting next Spring. Plants can grow in container pots while being sheltered from harsh weather conditions.

And of course you can grow your sprouts indoors in soil, water or hemp sprouting bags, which are great for travel. In fact growing sprouts is a great way to save money, easiest to do, and best nutrition you can give your body all year long, especially in the winter months.

Unearthed emails: Monsanto connected to campaign to retract GMO paper
with 14 comments

A trove of internal documents from Monsanto, recently unsealed in a lawsuit against the agricultural biotech giant, has revealed the firm’s role in the knotty tale of a paper from the lab of a scientist known for his stance against genetically modified organisms (GMOs).

That paper is “Long term toxicity of a Roundup herbicide and a Roundup-tolerant genetically modified maize,” published in September 2012 in the journal Food and Chemical Toxicology (FCT) and retracted in January 2014. Gilles Seralini, a scientist known for an adversarial stance towards GMOs, was first author. The documents have also spurred the retraction of several pro-GMO articles on Forbes.com written by Henry Miller, a fellow at the Hoover Institution, a conservative think tank at Stanford University. Emails showed that one of the articles, which didn’t discuss Seralini’s paper, was ghostwritten by Monsanto.

GMO 'superseeds' leading to 'superweeds'

The approval by the U.S. Department of Agriculture this month for new soy and corn seeds by Dow Chemical is setting off another battle over genetically modified organisms (GMOs).

At issue is whether the extended use of GMOs is creating a new type of "superweed."

These weeds are developing resistance to herbicides, because the GMO seeds can tolerate greater use of certain herbicides and pesticides.

As more herbicides are sprayed, that's created stronger, herbicide resistant weeds on farmland, reportedly costing farmers a billion dollars in lost crops.

"It is a crisis situation," said Neil Harker, a weed ecologist at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. "We're losing the effectiveness of herbicide tools against weeds going forward."

"I'm in favor of GMOs, but they should be used judiciously," he said.

Others say the weed infestation is one more reason to avoid GMOs altogether.

"We don't need pesticide-resistant GMOs to control weeds. There are natural ways to fight them," said Bill Freese, a science policy expert at the Center for Food Safety.

"The GMO industry likes to put a warm fuzzy glow on GMOs but we don't see much use for them at all," he argued.

However, farmers like Bill Horan, who has 4,000 acres in northwest Iowa, believe GMO seeds are irreplaceable. "We've used GMO corn seeds for decades and they're a great product," said the 66-year-old Horan. "It's always a battle with weeds but with the new seeds, the pesticides work better," he said.

$1 billion in damages

The newest genetically modified corn and soybeans were developed by Dow AgroSciences, a division of Dow Chemical. They are to be sold under the brand Enlist Weed Control System.

The seeds can tolerate glyphosate, the world's most widely used herbicide, as well as the lesser used herbicide called 2,4-D.

While approved by the USDA on Sept. 17, the seeds still need the go-ahead from the Environmental Protection Agency for their herbicide-resistant formula. However, that approval is expected, according to experts, with the seeds going to market in 2015.

The infestation of superweeds has more than doubled since 2009, according to Dow Chemical, which also states that an estimated 70 million acres of U.S. farmland are infested with herbicide-tolerant weeds that cost roughly $1 billion in damages to crops so far.

In an email response to CNBC.com, a Dow spokesperson wrote: "We agree with our critics that with unvarying use of the same model of weed control action ... weeds will adapt. We differ from critics however, in that we believe the best way to promote responsible use of weed control technology is to provide growers with the broadest practicable range of weed control options."

Other companies making grains resistant to herbicides include Pioneer, Syngenta and Monsanto, the world's largest producer of GMOs.

Monsanto also makes the herbicide Roundup, whose chief ingredient is glyphosate.

"(Weed) resistance to herbicides existed prior to the introduction of genetically engineered seeds," wrote a Monsanto spokesperson in an email to CNBC.

"Monsanto has been working for many years with scientists and academics to educate growers on the need for multiple modes of action," the email said.

'More toxic' herbicides
Because the fight against weeds is hardly new, that's a reason to avoid putting all the blame on GMOs for the current infestation, said Justin Gardner, a professor of agribusiness at Middle Tennessee State University.

"What's going on is natural selection," Gardner said. "Weeds were resistant before GMOs. The best way around this is to use different weed killers instead of the same one all the time."

But the increased resistance by weeds to herbicides only highlights why GMOs are at fault, said Itzick Vatnick, a professor of biology, biochemistry and environmental science at Widener University.

Read MoreUnapproved GMO wheat find should not hurt U.S. exports

"With the introduction of GMOs engineered to resist glyphosate in the mid-1990s, genetic resistance of many weeds to it rose dramatically," he said.

"The problem is so severe that the agrochemcial companies are now poised to introduce herbicides that are more toxic," Vatnick argued.

Divide deepens

The superweed infestation is unlikely to end the debate over GMOs. If anything, it just deepens the divide, say analysts.

The companies that make GMOs vouch for their safety and continued use. Bill Horan sees them as life-changing.

"We don't have weeds anymore, so we can take time to do the little things like going to our kids' swim team lessons," said Horan, who's harvesting his 40th corn crop this year.

"We couldn't do that when I was growing up when we didn't have the GMOs," he said.

But the critics point to what they say is a continuing list of harmful effects.

The Center for Food Safety's Freese said increased herbicide use—because GMOs are more herbicide tolerant—are decimating the monarch butterfly population in the U.S.

Freese said it's decreased by 90 percent due to herbicides killing off the milkweed that is a natural habitat for the butterflies.

John Kempf, a farmer and CEO of Advancing Eco Agriculture, a soil nutrition consulting firm, said GMOs fail to match their claims.

"They don't increase crop yields and they increase the resistance of weeds to herbicides," he said. "We should use the science of nutrition for the soil instead of the science of GMOs."

Insect hotels are a great project for chronic junk hoarders, who have been having a hard time convincing people that all the stuff in their shed is actually useful. Old pipes, broken pots, musty logs and bricks, bring them all out.

Sandi Cornez's curator insight, September 13, 2017 11:03 PM

Did you know that certain conventional (not organic) foods have been tested and found to contain much larger than previously thought amounts of the carcinogen glyphosate? Glyphosate is the weed killer from Monsanto’s Round Up product.

Pesticides, fungicides, and herbicides plus GMOs do not belong in the nation’s food supply. These poisons and other lab created chemicals cause untold harm to the human body.

They also cause harm to animals, birds, insects, weeds and the environment.

Health tips:
Your body doesn’t recognize and utilize for its processes foods that aren’t from Mother Nature. Buy organic/local or certified organic to be safe.
