When Animals Mourn: Seeing That Grief Is Not Uniquely Human : NPR

When Animals Mourn: Seeing That Grief Is Not Uniquely Human : NPR | Grief & Bereavement Counseling | Scoop.it
When animals die, their close relatives and friends may be plunged into mourning. Commentator Barbara J. King writes about animal grief in her new book, citing examples seen in animals large and small.
American Institute Health Care Professionals's insight:

An interesting insight into the world of animals and how they grieve.  It is foolish to believe only humans grieve.  Pet grief counseling not only helps the person understand the loss of a pet but also to help understand the nature of the pet and its own grief.  If you are interested in the program, please click here

End-of-Life Care

End-of-Life Care | Grief & Bereavement Counseling | Scoop.it
My father-in-law is dying. While his physician has known this for a while, the two have yet to engage in a meaningful conversation about end-of-life care. Their situation is not unique, but it can be rectified.
American Institute Health Care Professionals's insight:

Excellent Article! The author is correct, there is little "talk" around end of life issues. We would think that with the Patient Self-Determination act in place..long ago, that we would have transcended our fears of discussing death and dying with patients. We have a long way to go. Reasons To Consider Child Grief Counseling For Your Child

Grieving the loss of a loved one is something that most people find quite difficult to do in their lives. Although it's understandable that you feel such pain, it is also important that you take the time to check how your child is doing and how he or she is feeling after a loss. Although you may think that your child can cope better than you will ever will, you should also remember that children do not have the proper coping mechanisms in place to deal with such instances. As a grown-up, it is your responsibility to ensure that your child is okay and that he or she is dealing with the loss in a healthy way. This very need to ensure that any child facing a loss is able to mourn in a healthy way is what paved the way for child grief counseling . The pain of grief is difficult for some adults to cope with but to expect a child to deal with it without any help is just too much. What's good about having your child undergo grief counseling is that the professionals helping them deal with the loss are highly-trained and qualified. When you are a parent, you know that your child's well-being does not end with the emotional and mental aspects. You also need to make sure that your child is healthy, and for some this means hiring a trainer. A child sometimes manifests his grief by eating unhealthy or having a difficult time doing his usual routine, and this case it is best that you seek help from a health coach training expert. A health coach has the necessary tools to help your child deal with the grief by providing fitness goals and encouraging your child to join in various activities. If you are a licensed health care professional, this is also an excellent career opportunity you can consider. You will surely find plenty of institutions offering training and certification programs online, and it would just be a matter of choosing which one to sign up for based on your current career and the goals you want to obtain. If you feel you need more information about grief counseling and health training, you can go online and look for helpful resources. AIHCP is one of the best places you can visit if you need to seek more information on these topics and other programs you can sign up for. Here you will be able to learn more about the certification and training programs which you can sign up for if you want to branch out in your career. If you are interested in them career-wise, you can contact them for more information so you get to find out what joining these courses will mean for you. If you want to know more about health coach training then visit http://www.aihcp.org for more details.

Margaret Thatcher dead: Street parties organised on Facebook after passing of divisive former Prime Minister aged 87

Margaret Thatcher dead: Street parties organised on Facebook after passing of divisive former Prime Minister aged 87 | Grief & Bereavement Counseling | Scoop.it
Within an hour of her passing being announced, a public celebration in Brixton, South London was promoted on Facebook (Mourning glory http://t.co/eg2smTrJdL #nostatefuneral)...
American Institute Health Care Professionals's insight:

Margaret Thatcher's death is all over the news today. When a prominent public figure passes away it can often lead to the rememberance of our own grief.  The news of a funeral service, etc. can stir up emotions of grief within us. When this happens it is a good idea to take some time to reflect on the memories and if need be to talk openly about your feelings to a friend. Verbalization of feelings can be very healing.

Outcry as grief lumped in with depression

Grief is set to be confused with depressive illness in new guidelines for mental disorders.
American Institute Health Care Professionals's insight:

Ideas of grief being pathological have long passed away, but recent manuels on disorders are starting to lump the two together.  This is alarming and incorrect because grief is a natural reaction.  Depression is a form of complicated grief not normal grief.  If you are interested in learning more about grief counseling then please click here

Pets and grief

Pets and grief | Grief & Bereavement Counseling | Scoop.it
I had no more than written the article last weekend on the comfort an animal can bring, than my own comfort dog was taken.
American Institute Health Care Professionals's insight:

The loss of a pet can bring on devastating grief for owners. I have had many people over the years relate that the death of their pet or pets was as tragic for them as when they lost a loved one, such as a relative. Pet loss is often disenfranchised. People generally do not offer much grief support when a pet dies. But, things are starting to change. The American Academy of Grief Counseling has an entire curriculum and certification program for Pet Loss Grief. If you are interested you can review the program here: pet loss grief
