Now ya’ll know I’m not really trying to do back to back reviews of a song, but this remix hit today and it had to be done.  Now putting Chris Brown and Trey Songz on this song is a gimme.  I liked the remix ( many were tripping about Trinadad’s verse on the first mix but I’mma tell you.  Trinindad’s verse was in pocket.  For a remix to work with star performers, the artist can’t try to be bigger than the song and Trinindad James pulled that off on the first one.  Man is it me or does August Alsina really sound just like R Kelly?  #ImJustSayin.  Here’s the Stats;

August Alsina “I Luv This Shit” Ft Trinadad James

Woo this one is smooth.  This is one of the first time that a trap beat and a R&B groove works well (I love them horns in the back).  This one crept on everyone and radio fell in love with it.  Trinadad James found the right cut to get on.  This hook is working so hard #LOL.  This beat is almost like a Weekend or Drake beat given a trap feel and it works.  Here’s the stats

THE TRACK- 5($$$$$)  this track is so sultry and sexy, real talk…..

THE PERFOMANCE- 5($$$$$) this performance is perfect for this track.  This thing is like R Kelly and the Isley’s Brothers meets todays streets…

MUSCLE- 4($$$$) man come on, Trinadad delivered the streets for real…. This guys simplicstic pace is crazy..

JUICE- 4($$$$) radio is already all over this one (#4 on the BDS Charts with 3746 spins)…….

LYRICS- 4($$$$) the hook say it all and Trinadad’s bars (#WhatHe’sGonnaDo… #LOL) caps it…….

BUZZ- 4($$$$) man this crept so smoothly, this song was the creeper of the year.  It was a hit before anyone knew what it was….

“All Me” Drake ft 2Chainz & Big Sean

Now this one’s bubbling under (there’s way to much Drake shit out there to break a single.  There’s a lot of Drake freestyles out there.  You can only work one record at a time).  This one’s cool but the bars (who got them bars) thing is getting to be a little over the top.  This business is about hits.  Bars are cool but hits pay the bills and justify the investments.  “All Me” is sort of an insular view of what’s going on in this artists life (which has nothing to do with the fans.  They buy when they’re entertained.)  Here’s the stats:

THE PERFORMANCE- 3($$$) Drake, 2Chainz and Big Sean do their thing, but we’ve heard all this before……

MUSCLE- 2($$) Drake has a lot of juice in the streets, but the real indicator is the cash register….

LYRICS- 2($$) Bars that are just bars go nowhere.  Bars have to lead to a hit song……

TIMING- 2($$) like I said earlier, there’s so many different tracks out there that Drake runs the risk of being overexposed.  This cat’s fans are for real loyal and when he decides to remember it’s about them, then we’ll get a hit.  But right now I guess he’s feels like it All Him.  That’s why he called this “All Me”.

This weeks TopTen is now heded by August Alsina "I Luv This Shit".  Here's the TopTen.

Man J Cole might be that dude……

J. Cole is a true artist.  I mean just go check his video “Micheal” (a mashup from the show The Wire) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1F3wIzlUk3o .   J. Cole is a modern day griot, he’s where Kanye used to be and where Kool Ace was.  He told a story to beats.  The stories have structure and the stories go somewhere.  In a day where rapper’s bars are no more than twitter phrases strung together, it’s nice to hear someone who really put structure in his work.

“Crooked Smile” is no exception (I mean the video went nowhere where any of us would have thought it would go.  The music went one place but the video went somewhere else and both were just as impactive.  I mean this guy just might be that dude.

Hip Hop has always had generation definers.  From The SugarHill Gang to Salt N Pepa to Tupac to Solja Boy.  Different people came along to set the tone of what their generation’s idea of what hip hop should be delivering to fans in their perspective.

J. Cole not only does this but he also stays true to making sure hip hop continues to be a medium for his generation to stay informed on issue that they should be aware of, as with the case of “Crooked Smile”  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fzzMOMkjm8A  .
