“There is no such thing as winning in world politics, governance or business.” In this session, Simon Sinek, Leadership Expert and Author of “Start With Why” speaks about responsible leadership as a way for an infinite success, and he states that infinite players understand that the goal is not to win, but outlast competitors
Joe Boutte's insight:
Another insight session by Simon Sinek on responsible leadership for infinite success.
A county and national leader, Alisha Bell has learned how to be a successful public official by following the path her mother laid down. Now she ensures that her actions will help those who will one day follow her.
Blueprint looks like a subway map, but instead of destinations, there are goals: Agility, Proficiency, and Community. You may have thought when looking at Blueprint for the first time that the first two stops look like pre-requisites. This is no accident. An Analytics Strategy and Executive Sponsorship with defined Project Teams to lead the efforts, are both essential to kicking off with purpose and outcomes in mind. As a leader, you are a change agent for your organization, and you have the potential to do extraordinary things. Change is inevitable, change will always happen, but you have to apply direction to change, and that's when it's progress. Tableau Blueprint provides your direction, and tangible business value created by data-literate employees is your progress. Change can either be the beacon that lights the path, or the roadblock you cannot overcome. You always have a choice to embrace change and model the behavior you’d like your organization to adopt—and with regard to Tableau Blueprint, we believe the work is worth it. Your advocacy, inspiration, and ownership are critical in this stage, and will set the tempo for your team. Your analytics strategy should focus on outcomes that empower rather than hinder, and your goals for people, process, and platform should be well-documented. Additionally, your desired outcomes, known and desired use cases should also be considered as you begin the journey, especially if you have any “low hanging fruit” use cases with high potential for positive payback or behavioral change to prove success with the Tableau platform quickly.
Joe Boutte's insight:
Data analytics doesn't just happen, it requires leadership, planning, investment, and use in daily operations. It is not an "easy" button and required consistent and constant attention to transform culture, processes, and outcomes. For those who stay the course the results are efficiencies in decision-making and measurable outcomes and bottom lines. This is one example of the strategic and operational roadmap to applying long-term data analytics by using Tableau's Blueprint. This is not about IT. It's about leadership from strategy to outcomes and the perseverance and consistency in between.
Meanwhile, it won’t surprise you to learn that Google takes a data-driven approach to choosing snacks—and making sure the peanut M&Ms never run out.
Joe Boutte's insight:
Google leads the world in search, but did you know they also lead their company's many offices around the world with free snacks and guidance that access to food should never be more than 200 feet away from anyone. This has led to some very interesting food-related lobbying of Google by snack and food companies. Seems that the trends at Google influence the eclectic food trends around he world. Google is so serious about food that it has culinary directors, menu architects, wellness managers, and nutrition specialists, along with 1300 microkitchens at its 70+ offices around the world. I would imagine that this mix of food, technology and innovation would make it a cool place to work. Maybe I'll apply for an office in New Orleans.
While you may not be familiar with Louis Gagnon, he used to be senior vice president at job site Monster Worldwide, and then chief product officer and chief marketing officer for Amazon’s Audible unit, where he led a team that doubled revenue and KPI growth rates in less than 24 months.
Joe Boutte's insight:
Leaders find ways to merge ideas from a variety of areas to create new opportunities and teams to address the challenges of 21st-century living. Whenever wisdom, ancient or new, are combined to solve problems, we find opportunities that enable better living, smarter approaches, and positive outcomes. Louis Gagnon embodies the integrative thinking that has made him and his organizations successful. Doubling revenue at My Brain may be one of the examples for many of us to study and duplicate.
Hear the call to action contained in Abraham Lincoln’s story, and get to work. The world has never needed you and other real leaders more than it does now.
Joe Boutte's insight:
President Lincoln is America's most written about leader. His approaches and writings along with the luxury of history give us many reasons to model, or at least pay close attention to, his leadership of the Nation and how his leadership equates to our own everyday approaches.
Workforce in the United States will be affected as a result of technological innovations, automation, robotics and artificial intelligence. Changes to the education system will be important to ensure students are adequately trained for labor and employment opportunities in the near future.
Joe Boutte's insight:
If we're not careful and spend too much time on cable news, we could forget that great thinkers continue to think deeply and differently about challenges, solutions, and strategies for shaping the future in positive ways. I'm excited by some of the studies and thought pieces that consistently emerge in the midst and noise of our current national discourse. In multiple and quiet, yet effective ways, everyday leaders stretch our minds to the possibilities of better futures, solutions, and conversations. Here's one example from the Council on Foreign Relations where there is an abundance of thought leadership in an age of constant change. The work ahead starts everyday and yesterday.
On Monday, March 19, President Obama will meet with a small group of emerging leaders from Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries* to hear about the work they are doing in their communities, and to discuss how the Obama Foundation can support them to take their work to the next level. Leaders never stop assisting others to learn, achieve, create, and influence others for the good of others. Former POTUS Obama is leading young people around the world to empower their communities and make a difference in a highly complex and dynamic world. The exuberance and enthusiasm of the teacher and the students will be helpful in multiplying everyday leaders and positive change agents around the world.

Everyday leaders show up! Donte Quinine discusses the history of leadership while framing a new brand of leadership based on collaboration, engagement, and awareness. Followers are as important as leaders. Everyday leadership is a team effort in many environments. We all have the ability to take ordinary situations and make them extraordinary when we share responsibility, serve the greater good, and help each other.
Years ago, when he was asked to reflect on his own life, General Colin Powell described himself as “first and foremost a problem-solver.” It was true, of course. But he was far more than that…
Joe Boutte's insight:
More than a problem-solver...much more!

Joe Boutte's insight:
Lazy Leadership is Smart Leadership
Lazy Leadership isn’t really about being lazy. It’s about spending time on what matters and what you’re good at, then leaving everything else to your team. Giving up on the idea that you have to drive yourself into the ground in order to run a successful company, and thinking about your business as a machine that you design and optimize, instead of becoming a worn out cog within.
In the midst of pandemic, riots, and uncertain times the importance of #connectedness and #unity become more important and urgent. In the short notes from an interview between Skip Prichard and Eric George the two men discuss connectedness. Here's how Mr. George describes connectedness:
"Connectedness is a philosophy that has made my life fulfilling, both personally and professionally. The mindset is all about taking an interest in how people are experiencing the world. It’s about trying to understand their perspective, listening to them, learning how you can help them, learning how you can empower them to help you, and learning how together you can accomplish something where everyone wins. It’s a mindset in which you approach every person and interaction with the question, “What can we accomplish together?” And it’s the basis for relationships and achievements that add meaning to life."
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— Individuals, organizations recognized for economic development achievements...
Joe Boutte's insight:
Albuquerque's 505 Awards are one example of how communities honor their local leaders' contributions. Congratulations to the hard-working, dedicated leaders who are creating solutions for their community and setting the example for others across the globe.
On "Intelligence Matters" this week, Sue Gordon, principal deputy DNI director, talks with Michael Morell about how the U.S. is preparing for disinformation threats to the 2020 elections
Joe Boutte's insight:
Thankful for the professionalism and persistence of the Intelligence Community leaders, technical experts, and truth-tellers who take their oath of office seriously "to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic".
Raymond Jackson is a federal judge, while Gwendolyn Jackson sits on a state court. Both share a commitment to serving their communities and their profession.
Joe Boutte's insight:
The "Judges Jackson", Raymond and Gwwendolyn, epitomize preparation, intellect, commitment, service, and leadership, but know how to prioritize and keep family first. #wahoo #uva
When Greg Urquhart returned duty in Iraq, he noticed there weren't many options for Native American veterans. He set out to change that.
Joe Boutte's insight:
People helping people are the best leadership stories and exemplify the crux of leadership and service to others. Thank you Greg Urquhart for noticing a need and taking action.
To honor the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., ED hosted the Honoring MLK Jr.’s Drum Major Legacy: Innovative Pathways to Success event.
Joe Boutte's insight:
Leadership happens every day in large and small ways. Some of the best stories don't make the papers or network news, but we have to amplify them through our own networks. Creating educational opportunities should always be in the news and our conversations.
Salisbury University recognized the chairman of Perdue Farms, Jim Perdue, by presenting him with the school’s Perdue Leadership Award.
Joe Boutte's insight:
Leaders from small business sometimes become leaders in big business. Along the way, these leaders display various characteristics through challenging times of disruption, change, and challenge to lead their company or business to higher levels of excellence, corporate responsibility, and community action. They also create jobs and careers along with a corporate culture that creates more leaders to start the cycle again. Leadership is a pipeline of talent, perseverance, and innovation. Everyday leaders keep adding to it through mentoring, discovering, searching, and identifying those special people who serve others through their leadership approach.
“It is better to go down on the great seas which human hearts were made to sail than to rot at the wharves in ignoble anchorage.” — Hamilton Wright Mabie (1846-1916), American essayist Business evolves. It shifts, it shrinks, it grows and it changes. It adjusts to economic cycles, consumer tastes, advances in technology and developments in world politics. But regardless of where a business goes or what it must become, its leadership must draw strength from a few clear and enduring traits.
Joe Boutte's insight:
"Most successful #changeagents carry within them an unwavering commitment to making a difference — a commitment shaped by a clear conviction or vision. Their personal traits — such as an exceptional communication skill, remarkable work ethic, keen insight and awareness of others, or the fortitude to withstand disappointment — contribute to the essence of leadership, which is to inspire and lead others to achieve remarkable things." - Zakie Shariff, The Edge Malaysia
