5 Insider Secrets for Beating Applicant Tracking Systems - #Resume | Effective Resumes | Scoop.it

Polish up your #Resume in less than 15 minutes

Polish up your #Resume in less than 15 minutes | Effective Resumes | Scoop.it
Trish Sadar's insight:

Two quick ways to amplify your resume, and to improve your chances of your resume being seen by a human is:

1.  Include the job title of the position you are applying for in your resume.  If at all possible that means that the target position you are applying for should be strategically placed in your resume.  You can accommodate as part of your summary position statement at the top of your resume or place as part of the job experience.

Hint:  I am not suggesting that you include an objective at the top of your resume or to include a title of a position that you do not have any experience with.  I assume if you are applying for the position, that you would have experience with the job responsibilities:)

2.  Don't just tell me what you did, show me the results!

Action verbs, measures, and numbers are important…so make sure that your resume doesn’t just state what you did – share the results you achieved while in the role!

PS – Live on Purpose!

Create a Professional-Looking CV in Seconds with LinkedIN #Resume Builder

Create a Professional-Looking CV in Seconds with LinkedIN #Resume Builder | Effective Resumes | Scoop.it
Use the Resume Builder to turn your LinkedIn Profile into a beautiful resume. Pick a resume template, customize the content, and print and share the result to your heart's content.

Via Robin Good
Robin Good's curator insight, February 26, 2013 10:17 AM

The new LinkedIN Resume Builder is a great web app which allows anyone with a LinkedIN account to create a professional-looking resume by selecting from a number of ready-made templates.

The new app taps into your LinkedIN account info to extract and categorize all of your profile info, while leaving you with the option to edit and modify any of the data that will appear in the final resume and any of the pre-set fields that will displayed.

There are about a dozen different templates to choose from, and my first impression is that they all look quite good.

Your new final resume can be directly shared with others on all major social media and via a direct URL, and can be also saved and exported as a PDF.

I find Resume Builder from LinkedIN to be an excellent tool to create an always-up-to-date and professional-looking CV / resume in a matter of seconds.

P.S.: There may be some "pagination" issues as you will see when you export to PDF, but these can be circumnavigated easily. I am sure there will be improvements in future updates.

Free to use.

Mirko D'Isidoro - FreelanceWebDesigner.it's curator insight, February 27, 2013 4:15 AM

Voto: 9.

The Best And Worst Words To Use On Your #Résumé

The Best And Worst Words To Use On Your #Résumé | Effective Resumes | Scoop.it
One recent study showed that recruiters spend all of 6.25 seconds looking at a candidate’s résumé before deciding whether he or she is fit for a job. A new survey of 2,200 hiring managers and human resource staffers by jobs website CareerBuilder shows that your résumé may get a bit [...]
Trish Sadar's insight:

Please do take a minute to read the study!

I love that the article stated that the average time recruiters spend looking at resumes is 6.25 seconds.  I would always tell those who I was helping that if your resume is lucky enough to get past the systems and make it to a human...your resume has 6 seconds to catch the attention of the recruiter.

What does that mean to you?  Review your resume and make sure that the most important information is front and center.  Tweak your resume to ensure that a quick glance it is evident that you meet the qualifications of the position, and are a fit for the position, and the company.

Remember the job of your resume is to set you apart from the hundreds of other candidates to land you an interview on the first round.  Review your resume, would it past the 6 second test?

Hope the article and the tips help.  Until next time....PS - Live on Purpose!

Replace Career Objectives With Qualifications for a Better #Resume

Replace Career Objectives With Qualifications for a Better #Resume | Effective Resumes | Scoop.it
The "career objectives" statement is dead so don't waste a recruiter's time by listing it at the start, says Ruben Quintero, Medicare Broker Relations Manager. Instead, state the most pertinent qualifications for the job.
Trish Sadar's insight:

People often ask me why are career objectives out?

If you look at this way:  Career objectives are all about you -- what you want out of your career.

A resume should be written to get the attention of the employer and hiring manager.  That means it needs to be all about them -- what you can do for their department and company.

So replace the career objective with a qualifications paragraph.  The paragraph should concisely summarize and package your experience, qualifications, and skills to fit the requirements of the job posting.

Hope this helps you land that job!  Until next time...PS - Live on Purpose!
