The Ebola outbreak may be over in two countries -- Nigeria and Senegal -- even as it continues to spread rapidly elsewhere in West Africa, U.S. health officials said Tuesday.
No new Ebola cases have been diagnosed in Nigeria since Aug. 31, suggesting that the outbreak has been contained, according to a report Tuesday from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The only case confirmed in Senegal was reported Aug. 28 in a man who survived.
As Ebola continues its trail of devastation in West Africa, with a death toll of more than 3,000 people, the foreign ministers of Sierra Leone and Liberia have called on the international community to do more to help.
3,700+ children with parents as Ebola victims are shunned. No one wants to comfort them because they are too scared of the disease. It is the most deadly outbreak of the virus. Children who's paretns have died from ebola were lucky if their neighbors were even feeding them, any contact was not acceptable. It is breaking current families apart as well. A nurse who's patient died of ebola sleeps and eats by herself, away from her husband and children. There needs to be response to the disease in the next 60 days.
I think the worst kind of fear is the fear for something that cannot be helped, no matter how hard you try. It's not as bad as the black plaque but it is still very contagious. People fear that their family might have it but they can't comfort them because they're afraid they might get it as well. It's almost an impossible situation. I don't know how it will be fixed and I don't know why they brought it to America in the first place.

Desperate for a cure and frustrated at the massive death toll from Ebola, Dr. Gabriel; Gorbee Logan turned to a rare unconventional method, trying lamivudine, a drug used to treat HIV patients in Ebola patients under his care. The results, according to Dr. Logan, County Health Officer, Tubmanburg Hospital, has been impressive...
...Dr. Logan's recovery rate has been impressive as he cautions that his method only works if the patients turn themselves in on time. "When the patients come early, and they are put on this medication, they recover within three to five days. This medication is not specifically for HIV/AIDS, I want this to be clear, but an Anti Retrovirus agent that is used to treat other virus illnesses like hepatitis 'B'. It is one of those medications that are combined with two or three other medications to treat HIV/AIDS, so it should not really be called an HIV/AIDS drugs"...

The health workers on the front lines of Liberia’s Ebola crisis are working grueling shifts and risking fatal infection in their commitment to comfort the dying and save the sick.
Yet instead of being celebrated, these workers — most of them from Liberia and other African countries — face a significant public backlash. Many are shunned, evicted from their houses or confronted with obstacles in trying to return to their home nations after working in Ebola hot spots. Health workers seen on television in their now-familiar yellow or blue protective full-body suits have a name: “the Ebola people.”

...In Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone, media campaigns about Ebola, scripted by health ministries and international organizations, have been broadcast across FM networks and on the few local television stations. Designed to contribute to public education, the messages have, in some cases, produced the opposite effect. As Jeffrey Stern writes in the current issue of Vanity Fair magazine, in Guinea “the message from the government and the health workers (and local media) had undercut the incentive to cooperate.” The public service announcements fueled, rather than prevented, panic. “People in Guinea were as frightened by the response to Ebola as they were to Ebola itself.”...
