"The response to my previous post on Understanding Content Curation has been incredible. This definitely is a topic people are passionate about. Perhaps part of the reason for this is the tools and technology available provides an easy pathway to curate and follow our individual learning passions. This has me thinking more about the role content curation can play for students in inspiring passion-based learning, moving towards personalized learning and of the many skills and habits of mind that students can develop through the process."

Three experts shared tech tips and tools during “Flipped School Libraries,” a rapid-fire, dynamic session during The Digital Shift: Reinventing Libraries (#TDS13) webcast. Through the use of innovative technologies and online resources, school libraries can now be available tostudents wherever—and whenever—they need them. “Flipped” or blended learning offers students thepower of personalized instruction, through a mix of virtual and face-to-face interactions, at a student’s own pace. Embracing this concept is a must for student engagement and the future of the profession, say school librarians Joyce Valenza, Brenda Boyer, and Michelle Luhtala.

Do you allow students to answer a question with the response "I don't know" in the classroom? Perhaps you should consider no longer allowing that phrase and instead offering up these five other ways that might get students thinking a bit more.

There is a new digital divide on the horizon. It is not based around who has devices and who does not, but instead the new digital divide will be based around students who know how to effectively find and curate information and those who do not.

"For teachers, the key is how to get the learning to spill out of the classroom and continue the conversation. As the school year starts, digital tools via mobile devices are a perfect resource for breaking down the walls of the classroom, gathering immediate feedback on learning, and sharing in social media communities."

"Checking for understanding is the foundation of teaching.Whether you’re using formative assessment for data to personalize learning within a unit, or more summative data to refine a curriculum map, the ability to quickly and easily check for understanding is a critical part of what you do. (Which was the idea behind our post last March, “10 Assessments You Can Perform In 90 Seconds Or Less.”) "The following infographic Mia MacMeekin offers up 27 additional ways to check for understanding. Some aren’t necessarily quick–”Test what you learned in a new situation”–but there are a dozen or more other ideas that are worth adding to your teacher toolbox, many of which aren’t content-related, but rather cognitively-related (Locate 3 people who agree with your point of view.)"
