Mickael Ruau's insight:

Agile Essentials Starter Pack White Paper

Agile Essentials Starter Pack White Paper | Devops for Growth | Scoop.it

The Agile Essentials puts a toolkit of productive process tools literally into the hands of software development professionals, where it can deliver value every day in prompting and guiding the team and supporting team communication and collaboration.

Mickael Ruau's insight:

Specifically it means codifying:

  • The critical success factors - the kinds of things that, if teams fail to do, or fail to do well, then they will consistently struggle to be successful

  • The common, useful, modular, agile practices, which deliver real value if deployed appropriately (what we might characterize as the common, basic “tools” that are available for selection from an agile practice “tool-box”)

  • The things that we should not need to change, but rather we should expect to build on and reuse as a secure foundation, as we seek to scale the application of agile across our value streams to meet ever larger and more complex challenges.

Maximising the outcome of the ‘three amigos’ Agile workshop | Devops for Growth | Scoop.it

Introduced into Agile workings in 2013, The ‘Three Amigos’ or ‘Example’ workshop is quickly growing in popularity. Why? Because it fosters a shared understanding of the requirements and tests across a Scrum team – while establishing consensus on whether features are ready to enter a development sprint.

Featureban | Agendashift | Devops for Growth | Scoop.it

Featureban is a simple, fun, and highly customisable kanban simulation game. Since its creation in 2014 it has been used by trainers and coaches in Lean, Agile and Kanban-related events the world over.

The game starts simple with visual management (iteration 1); after that we layer on things like WIP limits (iteration 2) and metrics (iteration 3). This incremental approach is very much by design, and you are free to introduce your own elements in a similar fashion.

As per the copyright notice at the bottom of this page, Featureban is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License. Customisation is encouraged!

Cross-Functional Team - Published Patterns

Cross-Functional Team - Published Patterns | Devops for Growth | Scoop.it

A Game

Assemble several small teams who will compete in a game to make and fly paper airplanes. Each team member may make only one fold at a time, and then must switch to work on another plane. No plane may have more than 15 folds. It must be at least 15 centimeters long and 8 centimeters wide. It must have a blunt tip at least 2 centimeters wide. To qualify as a quality product the plane must fly 3 meters horizontally when the tester tests it. The tester may test each plane only once.

Try the game, and apply Scrum patterns (hint: Swarming) to optimize the number of quality planes produced in a one-minute Sprint.

Changeban | Agendashift

Changeban | Agendashift | Devops for Growth | Scoop.it

Changeban is a Lean Startup-flavoured Kanban simulation game. It is based on our classic game Featureban, with easier mechanics and a Lean Startup-inspired board design, and some different learning objectives.

Mickael Ruau's insight:

Unlike Featureban, which models a development process, Changeban places a strong emphasis on the knowledge discovery process, organisational learning, etc. It uses a scoring formula that rewards not only successful experiments but also those rejected at different stages of the process. Experiments are designed retrospectively, modelling how we can reflect not just on what we learn but on how we learn it

Agile in a Flash: Speed-Learning Agile Software Development--New from Pragmatic Bookshelf

Agile in a Flash: Speed-Learning Agile Software Development--New from Pragmatic Bookshelf | Devops for Growth | Scoop.it

The best agile book isn't a book: Agile in a Flash: Speed-Learning Agile Software Development  is a unique deck of index cards that fit neatly in your pocket. You can tape them to the wall. Spread them out on your project table. Get stains on them over lunch. These cards are meant to be used, not just read.

Mickael Ruau's insight:

Agile in a Flash cards teach leadership, teamwork, clean programming, agile approaches to problem solving, and tips for coaching agile teams. Use the cards for learning, as ice breakers for conversations, as constant reminders, and as a potent source of useful tips and hard-won wisdom.

(...)

The Agile in a Flash deck is broken into four sections: agile concepts, planning, teamwork, and coding. The front of each card features a concise list of the concepts you need to know and remember. The back provides further detail, with sage nuggets of knowledge based on the authors' two decades of experience coaching and doing agile-style projects.

Free games, templates, formats and inspiration for Scrum Teams

We love to create games, exercises, posters and other things that are helpful to Scrum Teams. On this page we share what materials we can share freely. Consider this our way of giving back to the…
Mickael Ruau's insight:
  • An entire board (Trello) with inspiring combinations of LS that we’ve used during the various meetups of the Liberating Structures User Group of The Netherlands. Use the Chrome plug-in ‘Scrum for Trello’ to make the timeboxes work and add up automatically;
  • An entire board (Trello) with many, many exercises, icebreakers, energizers and other formats we’ve come up with (or collected). We are still busy translating them to English and adding more detailed descriptions. But it may be helpful to look around and find inspiration;
  • A folder with visualizations for myths and misunderstandings in the Scrum Framework. They accompany our on-going series of Scrum Mythbusters (art by Thea Schukken);
  • A cheatsheet with 10 strategies (PDF) to break down work on a Product Backlog;
  • A 1–2-Tweet template (PDF) for gathering insights and new ideas during workshops, training and other events (art by Thea Schukken);
  • An Improvement Canvas (PDF) for making improvements specific and practical. This is excellent for Sprint Retrospectives or to translate other learnings into next steps, as a team or individually (art by Thea Schukken). Note that we did not invent the canvas, but created a nice PDF for it;
  • 40 Seconds of Scrum (PDF) is a game you can play with Scrum Teams to refresh core concepts related to Agile software development. The original idea is by Barry Heins. Read more about how to play this game here (art by Fonkel);
  • A template for the Liberating Structure Ecocycle Planning (PDF). We’ve found this a very helpful tool for cleaning up Product Backlogs, stopping unproductive behavior (as teams) and for personal coaching. Read more about using this model here. Note that we did not invent the model, but created a nice PDF for it;
  • A Stakeholder Map (PDF). This is an excellent tool to help Product Owners map their stakeholders and identify strategies to involve them. We did not invent the model, but merely created a nice PDF for it;

The files are also available on Google Drive. More will be added as they are created. So keep an eye on this page for updates :)
