How to Be a Great Community Manager

How to Be a Great Community Manager | Collaboration, Community and Sharing | Scoop.it
Andrew Gerkens's insight:

A really useful post, but I do disagree with the piece on measurement (point 24), which focuses on how busy the community is (activity measures), instead of how successful (impact measures). Success is linked to achievement of business outcomes or community objectives.

Community of Practice Case Study | Michelle Ockers | Collaboration, Community and Sharing | Scoop.it
In September 2014 we decided to get strategic with social learning in Coca-Cola Amatil's Supply Chain and establish a Community of Practice for our Maintenance and Engineering team members across Australia and New Zealand.  Helen Blunden of Activate Learning was engaged to help with this initiative.  Helen and I are Working Out Loud about the development of this…
Andrew Gerkens's insight:

A fantastic and in depth case study by Michelle Ockers and Helen Blunden (activatelearning.com.au), detailing the background, development, implementation and impact of the Work, Connect, Learn program. The solution was aimed at equipping workers to better utilise current tools, systems and resources (including people/networks) available in the organisation to build and share knowledge, and solve problems together at the speed of business.

The 12 Habits Of Highly Collaborative Organizations

The 12 Habits Of Highly Collaborative Organizations | Collaboration, Community and Sharing | Scoop.it
When it comes to the future of work and collaboration I've worked with and researched hundreds of companies.  Collaboration is indeed a top priority for many business leaders but knowing what makes organizations successful can be a tricky thing.  After all no two companies are like and their strategies and [...]
Andrew Gerkens's insight:

A great summary of key points from Jacob Morgan's book 'The Collaborative Organization' - an incredibly informative and practical guide to enabling and supporting organisations to build and share knowledge at the speed of business, with the support of collaboration tools (ESN and social platforms).

Jacob Morgan puts it nicely when he says, 'Social is what you have when you remove the business value from collaboration'.

Collaboration tools need purpose - to give workers a reason to use (and make sense of) them, to measure impact and to support implementation. Going social for the sake of it is not an effective approach. Organisation wide roll outs are also difficult. Instead consider working with small teams/groups who have a clear need (a problem that can be solved with the support of collaboration tools/approaches). This will be much more successful, whilst supporting longer term behaviour change (the adoption of new ways of working (out loud).

Lessons from Hollywood on capability development and knowledge sharing

Lessons from Hollywood on capability development and knowledge sharing | Collaboration, Community and Sharing | Scoop.it
By the 1930s, cinema was America's eight largest industry, so when the country entered the war after the attack on Pearl Harbor, Hollywood quickly mobilised to support the war effort. Many of us will be familiar with the films and cartoons that were used to keep up the spirits of the troops and support the home front, but the work of American film studios went far beyond morale and propaganda.A major focus for Hollywood was the use of film to speed up the training cycle, preparing troops for the front line in the shortest possible time. Training films supported consistency and allowed knowled
Andrew Gerkens's insight:

I watched this documentary about how Hollywood supported the second world war effort. Much of the work Hollywood did was about responding to the challenges of building capability and sharing knowledge at speed. It really got me thinking about how we can respond to those same challenges today, so I wrote this piece, which I shard via LinkedIn.

Why No One Uses the Corporate Social Network

Why No One Uses the Corporate Social Network | Collaboration, Community and Sharing | Scoop.it
If leaders don’t use it, no one will.
Andrew Gerkens's insight:

The role of leaders in enabling workplace collaboration - leading by example (obvious!), but it highlights the fact that collaboration tools need business purpose. Going social for the sake of it is destined to fail. This also reinforces why a staged/staggered roll out, starting with small groups who have a defined need, are open to changing the way they work and have leadership support is more likely to be successful than a mass roll out across the organisation.

Andrew Gerkens's insight:

So important to recognise that learning is part of working. Rather than talking about social (as an extension) of formal development, collaboration focuses on people sharing ideas, solving problems and creating solutions together - it is about building and sharing knowledge at the speed of business.

Jacob Morgan puts it nicely when he says, 'Social is what you have when you remove the business value from collaboration'.

Enterprise Social Networks: The Adoption Challenge

Enterprise Social Networks: The Adoption Challenge | Collaboration, Community and Sharing | Scoop.it
At the heart of a social platform is the need to engage in meaningful conversations with people you may know but often with people you don't know. It’s important to keep the above context in mind while launching any social initiative within the enterprise.A Deloitte report predicted that by the end of 2013 more than 90 percent of Fortune 500 companies will have partially or fully implemented an Enterprise Social Network (ESN). Given that we are in the middle of 2014, I am guessing this must have already happened. This blog is my attempt to reflect on the lessons learnt during our rollout
