Introducing Textual Evidence in the Elementary Common Core Classroom | Roz Linder.com | Common Core State Standards SMUSD | Scoop.it

"The lesson? Don’t ‘hide’ skills in the text. Model it and explain it as a skill andthen teach students to apply it to text. This changes the accessibility  and lets all students have access to the skill set regardless of their reading capabilities. Scaffold in the text and gradually increase the complexity then."

Mary Reilley Clark's insight:

This would work for middle school as well.  Modeling is key!

Mary Reilley Clark's insight:

Preliminary test blueprints from Smarter Balanced for ELA and math summative assessments.  There's a lot to explore here: rubrics, test blueprints, etc.  Read the appendices for examples of text used for assessment: the Dalai Lama and Marcus Aurelius, not insulation manuals!

Mary Reilley Clark's curator insight, December 20, 2012 2:44 PM

If you're looking for rubrics, text samples for assessment, dig around here.  There's a lot to wade through, but it's worth your time.

Common Core | Scholastic's Partnership with Schools

Mary Reilley Clark's insight:

The nonfiction and literature book lists alone should help reduce fears of students reading insulation manuals!  I hope Scholastic will continue to add to the list, as the titles currently on it are great examples of grade level appropriate books that meet CCSS guidelines.

Some of the other links are to Scholastic products, but it's worth looking around.
