A $33,000 Bottle of Louis XIII Cognac Hits the U.S. for the First Time

A $33,000 Bottle of Louis XIII Cognac Hits the U.S. for the First Time | The Cognac and its vineyards | Scoop.it
Spirits marketplace Baxus is offering a rare Louis XIII Cognac three-liter jeroboam decanter for sale tonight for $33,000
J-L Montembault's insight:

Rémy Martin is taking advantage of a change in legislation in the United States to launch sales of its Louis XIII Jeroboam.

The major cognac houses continue to focus on the American exclusive luxury market, even though the short-term outlook is bleak for a large proportion of cognacs.

Another option is to travel to France and visit the Cognac vineyards, both in terms of luxury and terroir, through slow tourism, another form of luxury.

Strange tales: Condé, Cognac and Bourbon lilies

Strange tales: Condé, Cognac and Bourbon lilies | The Cognac and its vineyards | Scoop.it

A decorated flask found in a Cognac field was the inspiration for one of spirits' leading brands, Louis XIII

J-L Montembault's insight:
The Land of Cognac has long been marked by the Catholic and Protestant religions.
Many places, often melted in the landscape, bear the mark.

The world of cognac and its organization still live with the consequences of the religious confrontation, whose origin comes from the Renaissance.

There are several ways to find a great cognac.

One is to have next door a wine shop or a bar specializing in spirits.

The very best one way is touring the vineyard of Cognac, South-West of France..

Next to the major brands there are 200 craft producers willing to let you discover their estate with its traditional distillery.

There you meet the owner and, with him or her, you taste family's products that have been aging for decades.

In France, a Cognac Tasting Tour at the Source

In France, a Cognac Tasting Tour at the Source | The Cognac and its vineyards | Scoop.it
A trip to southwest France is a lively tutorial in savoring the spirit — and the landscape.
J-L Montembault's insight:
The NY Times reporter reminds here there is no better way to discover the cognac than to come to the source and to be accompanied by a guide who will open hidden doors of distilleries and cooperages for a successful experience in the Cognac vineyard.

How could I contradict her!
Christine Montembault's curator insight, November 17, 2017 11:28 AM

How a happy accident gave the world Pineau des Charentes | The Cognac and its vineyards | Scoop.it
If it wasn’t for an inattentive 16th-century wine apprentice we might be without this French fortified wine that is lighter and more delicate than port
J-L Montembault's insight:
Pineau des Charentes starts to make its way to China, as the delicate little brother of Cognac.

Did you know that a kind of fortified wine is produced from the cognac ?

It is in the image of those who produce it, discreet, surprising, rich of a long past with a strong personality ...

You have to discover it to surprise your friends during the end of the year dinners.
