Bruichladdich and Remy Martin, sister companies

Bruichladdich and Remy Martin, sister companies | The Cognac and its vineyards | Scoop.it
Rémy Cointreau-owned Bruichladdich features as the only distillery in the B Lab Global series produced by BBC StoryWorks.
J-L Montembault's insight:

Did you know ?

The Bruichladdich whisky distillery is a sister company to Remy Martin cognac
In both cases, tradition is the common thread, and environmental and social impact are integral to their DNA.
The CEO of Bruichladdich said: "Focusing on our raw ingredients, making informed environmental choices, and putting Islay at the heart of our decision-making has been imperative over the years, and we remain passionate about connecting land, community, and dram today."
Substitute Islay for Grande Champagne and whisky for cognac, and you have a comment the CEO of Remy Martin wouldn't dislike.

Amazing, isn't it ?

Spirits marketplace Baxus is offering a rare Louis XIII Cognac three-liter jeroboam decanter for sale tonight for $33,000
J-L Montembault's insight:

Rémy Martin is taking advantage of a change in legislation in the United States to launch sales of its Louis XIII Jeroboam.

The major cognac houses continue to focus on the American exclusive luxury market, even though the short-term outlook is bleak for a large proportion of cognacs.

Another option is to travel to France and visit the Cognac vineyards, both in terms of luxury and terroir, through slow tourism, another form of luxury.

The NY Times reporter reminds here there is no better way to discover the cognac than to come to the source and to be accompanied by a guide who will open hidden doors of distilleries and cooperages for a successful experience in the Cognac vineyard.

How could I contradict her!

Trebbiano (Ugni Blanc) Wine Information

Trebbiano is a white wine grape that originated in Italy, but has successfully migrated to other European wine regions. The variety's most notable migration was to the west of France, where it goes by the name Ugni Blanc and is the key grape of Cognac.
J-L Montembault's insight:
A short history of Ugni Blanc grape that is most grown to produce cognac, brought from Italy to France by monks thanks to a pope who moved from Rome to Avignon.

This introduction has to be linked with many ruins of abbayes in the Charentes.

J-L Montembault's insight:
The Land of Cognac has long been marked by the Catholic and Protestant religions.

Why You Should be Drinking Cognac

Why You Should be Drinking Cognac | The Cognac and its vineyards | Scoop.it
America now consumes more cognac than any other country in the world. Here's why.
J-L Montembault's insight:
Northern America is now the most consuming world area in the world. This is partly explained by the US$ / € parity, partly by a real development of this category, both with young cognac (VS, 3*...) and much older (XO and over) and partly by the drop of consumption in China. Next could be the recovery of Russia once their economic turmoil is over. The worse for the Cognac country is not yet for tomorrow ...

All cognacs are a brandy, or a spirit made from wine. But not all brandies are a Cognac... Even though some look very similar.

J-L Montembault's insight:

Frapin has a specific position in the Cognac world. Like few trading houses it is known almost worldwide but it is not a trading house !

Like a number of family estates, Frapin distils wines coming only from their own vineyards and market only them but they are known worldwide like no other family estate !

If to this specific position you add the quality of their cognacs coming from the best growth area, the Grande Champagne vineyards, then you understand why visiting this estate is quite an experience ...

Moët Hennessy is in the process of consolidating its employee headcount, according to reports, with around 1,200 jobs on the line.

Cognac merchant Hennessy, owned by Moët-Hennessy, is experiencing a market decline unprecedented in 25 years.
In addition to reducing its purchases of eaux-de-vie from winegrowers and distillers, the merchant is drastically reducing its workforce, indicating that it does not believe the market will quickly return to its 2023 and 2024 levels.
