Poseidon officials say they prioritized a plant in Carlsbad instead.

While there seems to be some difference in opinion of the history, the most important note here is that a single successful plant construction did not readily pave the way for subsequent plants.

Gov. Brown declares California drought emergency is over

Gov. Brown declares California drought emergency is over | Coastal Restoration | Scoop.it
Startlingly green hills, surging rivers and the snow-wrapped Sierra Nevada had already signaled what Gov. Jerry Brown made official on Friday. The long California drought is over.
PIRatE Lab's insight:
The SURFACE water drought may be (temporarily) over, but the groundwater overdraft is decades away from being over.
Justin Nguyen's curator insight, April 10, 2017 1:52 AM
it's almost surreal just seeing this. I was told a drought was always around before i was born and believed it because my parents worked with this subject hanging over their heads.
I almost didn't believe it until i saw the source.

It opens with words from senator brown himself who states that while the drought is over "Conservation must remain our way of life"... from that i can see not much will change for a few years but that's probably for the best.

it goes on and elaborates the effects for the drought. Then follows up on what happened during the drought. nting that we barely felt anything.

It also notes that we have done this before in the late 80s and early 90s. The article tells us we hav learned from the ordeal and it has helped us. water has become ery monitored these  days. It's an interesting science to how we react.

Lead taints Canada's water supply

Lead taints Canada's water supply | Coastal Restoration | Scoop.it
A widespread investigation has found that communities across Canada are facing a crisis in lead-contaminated drinking water. Even one of the country's most famed, eco-friendly ski resorts is not immune. As Marc Edwards explains to host Marco Werman, the problem is in some ways man-made, and governments are further complicating the situation in the way they're repairing pipes. Edwards was a primary whistleblower in the Flint water crisis but has also been specializing in Canada's water infrastructure for the past decade.

Where's the rain? California could suffer an unusually dry winter from San Francisco to Los Angeles | Coastal Restoration | Scoop.it
The dry conditions are partly to blame for the worst fire season on record in California. Low humidity and lack of rain coupled with high winds fueled destructive wildfires from Mendocino down to San Diego this fall. In wine country, more than 40 people died and more than 10,000 homes were lost. To the south, the Thomas fire in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties became the largest wildfire on record in California.
