CHINA: Agriculture can plow a productive furrow  | ASIES | Scoop.it

The US-China relationship is very challenging. AUSTRALIA-JAPAN: Rethinking theirs agricultural relationship

AUSTRALIA-JAPAN: Rethinking theirs agricultural relationship | ASIES | Scoop.it

Australia and Japan’s longstanding agricultural relationship needs to move beyond the traditional focus on tariffs and investment and adapt to modern economic security challenges. A regional supply chain in fuel, fertiliser and plastics would shield against shocks, multilateral forums could address shared challenges to food production, and Australia could share its own experience of farm reform with Japan. These measures would upgrade the partnership into a broader instrument of economic security, international strategy and domestic resilience.

JAPAN: Deadly daytime heat turns farmers nocturnal | ASIES | Scoop.it

Japan's farmers are opting for more nocturnal schedules as daytime summer heat makes working conditions dangerous. North of Tokyo, Motoaki Iijima harvests flowers in his illuminated greenhouse long after sunset. The farmer was pushed to  make a dramatic change after a worker suffered heatstroke picking sunflowers in the greenhouse three summers prior. A few towns away, poultry farmer Tetsuya Usuba has also adopted a nocturnal schedule, waking his flock at 2:30 am to eat.
