IBM and its partner Veristorm are working to merge the worlds of big data and Big Iron with zDoop, a new offering unveiled last week that offers Apache Hadoop running in the mainframe's Linux environment.

I still find it odd in putting Hadoop on a mainframe given that Hadoop's original value prop was massively parallel processing on commodity hardware, but I guess if that is where the data is, it makes some amount of sense.
