Did you know? A cleaner shoreline is coming to Floyd Bennett Field National Park this weekend thanks to hundreds of Brooklyn Scouts & Breukelen District Chair Robby Riess & his team

Breukelen District Annual Conservation Project at Floyd Bennett Field National Park.  The event will take place on Saturday, October 18, 2014 and will run from 9:00am to 4:00pm.  It is our 5th year conducting this project that provides service to our community and is free for our scouts.

The aim of the 2014 Conservation Project is to provide 1,000 hours of service to help clean up Brooklyn’s shoreline.  The pre-registered attendance totals as of the writing of this email are 799 attendees that will help us achieve our goals.  There will be 32 scouting units represented on Saturday comprised of 142 leaders, 174 boy scouts, 260 cub scouts and 233 scout family members.

NYC Scouts perform service for Central Park

Troop 729 in Washington Heights performed service in Central Park’s North Woods yesterday, removing the invasive Japanese Knotweed plant from a designated area..  To help insure that the plants would not grow back, the Scouts then gathered and spread seeds from nearby, ecosystem-friendly, Virginia Knotweed plants.

From note I received about Camp Alpine Ranger Staff

"I wanted to send you a note letting you know how grateful the Northeast Region Order of the Arrow team is for the service and dedication of Wally Cary at Alpine. Wally and his team (all the Rangers) did an outstanding job during the weekend of September...taking care of the region’s Order of the Arrow leadership. We had asked for a special event as part of that weekend’s events so that we could recognize... and they made it special..."
