The Wanderlust magazine has a great online article about Belize, and since it focuses on sustainability and culture, Cayo is prominently covered. Xunantunich is all over the article, and Actun Tunichil Muknal is highlighted. Definitely worth a read, and they really made a nice online presentation of all the info. 'The San Antonio Women's Cooperative was started by a group of nine Maya women who came together to create sustainable economic opportunities for their community. By producing handcrafted textiles using traditional methods and natural dyes, they preserve their cultural heritage for future generations while also generating income... Xunantunich, situated in the western Cayo District, offers panoramic views from its imposing main temple, El Castillo. Nearby, Caracol is the largest Maya site in Belize and features impressive architectural feats and a rich history of conflict with neighbouring states.' '

Forbes has a great article highlighting Belize, and its focus on sustainability. It's highly Cayo centric, as it should be, without mentioning Cayo nor San Ignacio. It explains how we have the cultural, culinary, and adventure tourism that makes for an unforgettable time.

Congratulations, FCD Environmental Youth Group! They won Club of the Year at last night's Belize Youth Awards in Belize City. Well deserved, as they work on many different projects around Cayo that focus on sustainability and environmental awareness.

Great article that is highly informative on everything from the fact that close to 10%, up to $5 trillion, of the world's GDP is attributed to tourism. Cayo is known for having many eco lodges, and many that focus on sustainability. Make the world a better place, and think, live, and travel sustainably. "People who operate sustainable businesses understand that well-trained, justly compensated staff members are loyal to their employer and often help improve a company’s efficiency. Well-treated employees also provide excellent service, which is a key component of a great travel experience... Your visits to historic and cultural sites help maintain these local treasures by giving the local community a reason—and the means—to protect them. Plus, learning about the traditions and cultures of others is a great way to discover new things about you."

The Eco Kids have gotten presetations on Sustainability and Solid Waste Management while having a great time at their Summer camp.
"After finishing touches were put on the bracelets, campers lined up and marched to the Chaa Creek conference room, where Mr. Brion Young gave a presentation on the various ways to use environmentally friendly practices in everyday life. Mr. Young highlighted several of the ways in which Chaa Creek recycles, such as using old cardboard boxes as mulch at the Maya Organic Farm, as well as giving campers advice on recycling at home."
