The U.S. Embassy visited some Belmopan high schools, presented on MLK's 'I Have a Dream Speech,' and are doing a junior essay competition.  Don't forget that the 'I Have a Dream for Belize' essay competition ends on the 9th.  The winner gets a tablet, and has their essay published in the papers.

"On Monday, the Embassy's Public Affairs Officer, met with students from two different local high schools in Belmopan to discuss the significance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s, 'I Have a Dream Speech.'  The students will participate in a JUNIOR essay competition, much like the current essay competition we are offering to the Belizean public.  Just a reminder that submissions are due on February 9th.  That's just FOUR days away!!!"

Primary and High school students are invited to submit entries for the George Price Art Competition.  Submissions will be accepted through September 16th, and the winners will be announced on the 19th.  For more information, contact the Benque House of Culture at 823-2697.  Happy September Celebrations!

The Cayo Christian Academy graduated their class of 2012.  Congratulations to all the happy graduates!

The Institute of Archaeology is have a poster competition to celebrate International Archaeology Day, which is October 18th.  The theme is 'preserving the past for the future,' and it's open to high school and primary school students in standard 4 through standard 6.  The deadline to submit is October 4th.  For more information email research@nichbelize.org.  The prizes are a tablet, digital camera, and school supplies.  Good luck!

Sacred Heart College had their auditorium inauguration Tuesday night.  They had a few short speeches from Dr. Eve Aird and Julio Llinas, the building blessing from Father Leo Palma, a ribbon cutting, and some amazing BBQ from Running W Meats.  The high school will be having their graduation ceremony there this Saturday.  Congratulations, SHC, for a building well done!

Scholarships for the next school year are being offered from Belize Bank.  They have the requirements up on their website, and this year, they are offering scholarships for high school and 6th form.  You can pick up application forms at the local branch.

The Social Security Board is offering scholarships for 6th form, high school, and vocational schooling.  They have the forms for all 3 availble to download on their website.  May 10th is the cutoff date for receiving applications.  Best of luck!

"In 2005, the Board of Directors approved a proposal to offer Sixth Form scholarships to 17 deserving High School graduates.  The proposal was a result of consistent requests from students for assistance to further their education at the Sixth Form level.  This scholarship program allows students to attend the institution of their choice.  It is valued at $4,000.00 for the two-year program."
