San Ignacio & Iguanas

Video of the day.  The Cheap Nomad visited the Green Iguana Conservation Project, and got some great footage of the fun to be had there.  They stayed at the Old House Hostel, and also got some footage there.

"People have asked me what it's like staying in a hostel. Here is a pretty typical hostel we stayed at in San Ignacio, Belize. We had our own beds in a 4-dorm room which cost us $14 a night each. There is usually a kitchen, communal space, and a couple bathrooms that are shared amongst everyone. If you are ever in San Ignacio, visit the Iguana Sanctuary nearby. They rehabilitate injured Iguanas and have successfully implemented an Iguana breeding program. The entrance was $9."

AJAW Mayan Chocolate in Belize

Video of the day.  The Cheap Nomad visited AJAW Chocolate, and had a great time learning about, making, and tasting some chocolate.  AJAW has become a must do for those that come for a cultural and educational experience.

"Chocolate was the Maya's gift to the world but people recognize places like Switzerland and Belgium for their chocolate and chocolatiers. Really, 80 - 90% of the production is actually done in southern Belize by local and indigenous communities. Southern Belize actually accounts for over 80% of the world's chocolate. We learned how to make a Mayan chocolate drink, the traditional way to serve and prepare it, stemming back hundreds of years and is still practiced today. "
