Beer Diaries in Belize - Marie Sharp's

The Beer Diaries did a special on Marie Sharp's Hot Sauce.  They show how Marie's amazing sauce is made, and interview her.  Marie has a great story, and it's a highly successful one.

"The Beer Diaries is proud to present The Beer Diaries World Tour: Belize, a series dedicated to using beer as an introduction to history, culture and the geo-political state of countries around the world.  In this episode, host Mike Mann and his team head to Stann Creek Valley to speak with Marie Sharp, owner of Marie Sharp’s Hot Sauce, about the second largest export of Belize and the importance to the people of the region.  This companies origin story, a big contrast to the Belikin Beer monopoly, takes you through the peaks and valleys of Marie’s fierce determination to make this one of a few Belizean products that has made it all over the world via her grassroots efforts.  "

More great pictures from the Belize National Youth Chess Foundation's Chess Olympiad.  Great to see so much interest in a game that teaches strategy and critical thinking.  They really transformed the UB gymnasium for the event.  They even had stlit walkers show up.

"Teams from across the country travel to Belmpan to compete in 'the game of WAR' Once again a wonderful day as Stann Creek defended the National title.  Special thanks to our fearless President Pedro Pixabaj who lead us to victory again!"

Volunteering with S6 in the Chiquibul

Volunteering with S6 in the Chiquibul | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

Eco Camino has a great article about spending time with the Scarlet Six Biomonitoring Team in the Chiquibul Forest Reserve.  They got some amazing pictures from the journey.  Keep up the great work!  Protect the Chiquibul!

"Eco Camino is proud to say that it was a nice opportunity to volunteer with S6 -Scarlet Six, during two consecutive weeks in the Chiquibul Forest Reserve.  I had never seen Scarlet Macaws in the wild and the most amazing thing was, first to see 16 of them all at once, second to see them flying over my head while bathing in the Raspaculo River, a branch of the Macal River.  The Macaws generally come in the Chiquibul during the breeding season which extends from April to September.  The rest of the year, they migrate to Red Bank, in the Stann Creek district from early January to March.  The reason of this migration is to feed on the clay where they can extract minerals from it.  This will further help with the development of calcium for their eggs.  It usually takes 12 to 13 weeks before a chick can fledge from its nest -the nest being a cavity in a Quam trees."
