Video of the day.  The Belize Zoo has video of their new tapir calf.  Talk about cute!  National Tapir Day will be celebrated this Saturday at the Belize Zoo, and you can vote for the name of the new calf.  

"We are so excited to share this very special video with all our "watermelon" fans! Here is a sneak peak of the tapir calf with proud mama, Navidad. You can meet the whole tapir family in person this Saturday April 28th during National Tapir Day celebrations at the Zoo! There will plenty of games, animal encounters, and special surprises, including the big reveal for our naming poll for the tapir calf. It's going to be "mountain cow mania" at the Zoo from 10am-3pm!

The Belize Zoo celebrated National Tapir Day in style yet again.  Happy birthday, Fuego!

"We had an amazing day celebrating National Tapir Day 2016 with over 200 special guests!  The day was action packed with tapir talks, music, games, and aerial antics!  A big congratulations to the students of Franks Eddy, St. Therese R.C. and Pilgrim Fellowship schools who won the very competitive tapir slogan competition.  Fuego the tapir had high class company with these brilliant students attending his 3rd birthday party.  A big PAWS UP to all our other friends, supporters and our very own TBZ staff who helped make the biggest event on the Belize Zoo's calendar a great success!"

The Belize Zoo is having a slogan competition.  Fuego's 4th birthday will be celebrated on April 27th, and the winner along with their classmates, will be guests of honor.

"In honor of National Tapir Day and “Fuego” the Tapir’s 4th birthday, The Belize Zoo and Tropical Education Center is inviting Upper Division Primary School students countrywide to enter a slogan competition to celebrate this wonderful occasion.

The slogan should promote tapir conservation and awareness reflecting pride as our national animal and may highlight their habitat, their role in the environment, or the threats they face. Interested schools will receive an illustrated information package about Belize’s National Animal to assist in creating a great slogan. Entries should not be more than 12 words long.
