Belize Literacy Project Concludes

Belize Literacy Project Concludes | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

The Rotary Club of San Ignacio has finished up their 5 year Belize Literary Project, and they had a small handing over ceremony to the Ministry of Education.  Thanks, Rotary!

"This country-wide project for Belize Literacy sponsored by our Canadian partners in Rotary District 5370 came to an end after 5 years and lots of work from many dedicated folks.  The handing over ceremony was a venue to hand over the last of the equipment to each of the district offices and to the staff of Ministry of Education."

Rotary Club Helps Two Cayo Schools

Rotary Club Helps Two Cayo Schools | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

The Rotary Club of San Ignacio has just started two new school infrastructure projects here in Cayo.  They are building bathrooms for Eden SDA Primary School and St. Andrews Anglican School.  Thanks, Rotary!

"The schools will receive modern flush toilets in adequate numbers that are also accessible by wheelchairs.  The building plans are based on a standard model that is recommended by the Ministry of Education which was also instrumental in selecting the schools.  The buildings will even be equipped with fresh water storage tanks in case of interrupted public water supply.  The goal of these two projects is not only to provide the kids with decent bathrooms.  In each school the whole measure will be embedded in the health education curriculum that teaches personal hygiene among others."

'My Body is Precious' Tour | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

The Special Envoy for Women and Children is doing a book launch tour all around Belize for the new 'My Body is Precious' book, and they're coming to Cayo on Friday.  They'll be in Belmopan, at the UB Auditorium, on April 19th at 10am, and in Benque, at the Marshalleck Stadium, at 2pm.

"Launch of the Book by special Envoy for Women and Children Mrs Kim Simplis- Barrow together with author Starla Bradley- Acosta, donors Christine Norton and the children of Belize in attendance.  An arm injury could not keep the US Ambassador to Belize away and the Hon Minister of Education taught us a new three letter rule for bedtime (ppb, figure it out;-)  For more info on the fabulous work being done by the Envoy, go to https://www.facebook.com/SEWC.Bz"
