Eco-Kids Summer Camp 2015 Wrap-Up

Eco-Kids Summer Camp 2015 Wrap-Up | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

The Eco-Kids Summer Camp has once again, come to a grand close.  The kids had a great time learning about the environment and their place in it.  Thanks, Chaa Creek!

"The 'best week of the year' as Mr. Levi likes to call it, always ends on a little bit of a somber note as the eco-kids see their parents arriving to pick them up and go home.  However, not all joy is lost!  Campers signed each other’s camp t shirts for memorabilia, helped clean up the camp by team, and had one last breakfast from Mr. Docio & co. before they performed their polished skits for their parents.  It wasn’t just the parents that took interest in all the hard work their children put in during the week, though. Various members of the Lodge at Chaa Creek staff hiked up to the River Camp to watch the children perform as well!  And of course, the Fleming family was front and center to see how the children enjoyed their learning experience and how they enjoyed being at the Macal River Camp."

Glamp Like a Champ at Macal River Camp

Glamp Like a Champ at Macal River Camp | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

The Macal River Camp at Chaa Creek was listed in Oyster.com's top 5 list for places at which to glamp.  Glamping, glamorous camping, might sound silly, but it's just another niche for travelers who want a rustic experience without having to rough it too much.  Cayo is the place for camping...and now glamping.

"This collection of canvas-roofed tents is located on the grounds of the luxurious Lodge at Chaa Creek, and guests at the camp are welcome to use the lodge facilities, such as the swimming pool.  But the tents allow guests to truly feel alone in the jungle.  There is no electricity, and after dark, the tents are lit by the glow of flickering gas lamps.  At night, guests can fall asleep listening to the cicadas and the chorus of howler monkeys.  Bathrooms and showers are shared, excellent meals are served in the thatched-roof dining area, and campfires are lit on chilly evenings."

Chaa Creek Wins on TA and Oyster

Chaa Creek Wins on TA and Oyster | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

Chaa Creek not only won a Trip Advisor Travelers' Choice awards, but made the Oyster.com list for 15 Unique Hotel Stays.  On TA, they won in the Best Small Hotels category, and they remain on the Best Family Hotels category from last year.  Read what Oyster.com has to say about them.  Congratulations, Chaa Creek!

"Chaa Creek, one of Belize's first eco-lodges, has evolved from its humble beginnings as a working farm to become a premier luxury retreat.  This sophisticated operation includes rustic-luxe, thatched-roof cottages, wonderful service, and modern amenities such as an infinity pool with jungle views and a full-service spa.  The riverside setting on a private rainforest reserve is phenomenal, and myriad tours and outdoor activities are offered through the hotel.  To top it off, room rates are fair for what you get -- and there are even budget accommodations available at Macal River Camp (pictured), located on the property."

Mind-Blowing Glamping in Cayo

Mind-Blowing Glamping in Cayo | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

Chaa Creek was mentioned in oyster.com's top 5 list for 'mind-blowing' retreats.  The article mentions glamping, a term which is becoming well known, at CC's Macal River Camp.

"The budget-friendly Macal River Camp at Chaa Creek takes camping to a whole new level — specifically, the 'glamping' (translation: glamorous camping) level.  Guests stay in tents lit only by the flickering glow of a gas lamp at night, and can fall asleep to a chorus of howler monkeys and cicadas."

Cayo's Saturday Market is on the Huffington Post

Cayo's Saturday Market is on the Huffington Post | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

While this article starts as a scuba story, once they get to Cayo, they realize that next time, it's just Cayo.  All the highest voted pictures are at the market. They've already booked at Macal River Camp.  Smart move!

"Although I had been waiting all week to get to the Lodge at Chaa Creek, a luxury eco-ranch in the middle of the Belize jungle, I thought I had to stop at the Saturday morning market in San Ignacio, the biggest town in Cayo.  I'd heard that I'd find native Belizeans and Mennonites (both of whom have settled in Cayo in large numbers) selling folk art, produce and street food.  As a toy lover, I was excited to pick up some tiny embroidered animals made of colorful cloth; as a food lover, the custard apples (a kind of soupy fruit eaten with a spoon) and the hot grilled pupusas (dough with beans and cheese folded in) put me in gastronomic heaven.  Even better, the market made for some of the best photo ops in Belize.  The peppers were bright, the children were adorable and the spices! I've never seen spices like that."

Cayo Defines Ecotourism

Cayo Defines Ecotourism | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

Chaa Creek was just picked as one of the 4 best eco-lodges that is within a short flight time from the United States.  The Salon.com article highlights their emphasis on ecology, preservation of biodiversity, and humanitarianism, while still being top notch.  They mention glamping at their Macal River Camp too.  Cayo wins again.  Congratulations, Chaa Creek!

"The Lodge at Chaa Creek allows guests a wide range of luxurious sleeping accommodations, from 'glamping' (glamorous camping, of course) in 10 well-appointed camp casitas on the Macal River to luxe tree-top suites with private Jacuzzis.  Guests can explore 365 acres of private nature reserve on foot, horseback, and canoe.  There aren’t many properties where visitors can pamper themselves in the spa, eat an organic Creole inspired breakfast, then learn about indigenous healing plants from a Maya tour guide, all before noon, but Chaa Creek does just that and they’ve done it with personality and attention to detail since 1981."

"My Amazing Belize Vacation"

"My Amazing Belize Vacation" | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

A week in Cayo for the Winter Solstice Contest winner, based out of Chaa Creek's Macal River Camp, and starting with a tour of the Belize Zoo.  Of course it was awesome!  What a great thank you note and review at the same time.

"Thank you SO much for our wonderful vacation!  I feel extremely lucky and fortunate to be the winner of the Maya Winter Solstice Competition!  The trip was so full of awesomeness that I almost don’t know where to start…

We really loved all of the tours we were able to do.  Caracol was awe-inspiring and we felt privileged to have Mr. Hugh as our tour guide.  He is so passionate about Mayan history and archaeology.  Barton Creek Cave and Rio Frio were also breathtaking and turning the lights out while sitting in the canoe so deep in the cave in total darkness was bone chilling.  The morning of December 21, 2012 we woke up and took a ride to the stables.  I was a bit nervous about riding a horse through the jungle because I had only ridden a gentle horse in fields in the past.  It took me about ten minutes to warm up to riding and the horses all ride in line so well."
