The Belize Travelcast

The Belize Travelcast | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

Belize has a new podcast.  Belizing.com has a whole series of podcast interviews, with Javier Gutierrez as the host.  The first episode is an interview with Jim Scott, and the 2nd and 3rd are with the creator and head of the Belize Raptor Center.  It's Cayo based, so they've had mostly Cayo people on the podcast.

"Host Javier Gutierrez of The Belize Travelcast welcomes Jim Scott for a discussion about his journey to Belize from Michigan, USA and what made him stay in Belize all these years. Jim recounts his time in Belize City and how he assimilated into the culture of Belize and fell in love with the people. They discuss his love of nature and his experiences as a scuba diver, fly fisherman, avid hiker, and a professional in the Belize tourism industry. Jim is an advocate for hospitality training in Belize and together with Lorena Zaldana they own and operate Hospitality Training Services Belize which offers hospitality training and certification in Belize and around the world. They are also the proprietors of the 501Hub, a new restaurant in Belize City which also serves as a training hub for restaurant staff."

BETEX is Belize’s Rising Tourism Star

BETEX is Belize’s Rising Tourism Star | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

Great title.  The Belize Tourism Industry Association had a great turnout at BETEX.  Cayo has had more tourism this year.

"According to BTIA President Jim Scott, this year was the biggest in the event’s history, with over 350 attendees at Belize’s Princess Hotel.  Mr. Scott said that due to the country’s small size and other unique attributes, promoting Belize in-country was more effective than attending larger trade shows overseas.  'Where better can you promote your culture and your destination than at home?  They get to learn about Belize, about our culture, about our natural resources, things to do while they are here… the hotels, tour operators, sites, restaurants, smells and so many good things.  Things that you have pride in as a Belizean.'"

Iron Man Challenge for Iron Kids Belize

Iron Man Challenge for Iron Kids Belize | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

Feelgood story of the day.  Rotarian Jim Scott competed in the Cozumel Iron Man to raise money for Belizean kids.  Thanks, Rotary!

"The kids and staff of Dorothy Menzies Child Care Centre said 'Good bye and God speed,' as Jim Scott left Tuesday, November 20, 2012 to make final preparations for Sunday, November 25, 2012.  That day was Rotarian Jim Scott's 50th birthday.  With the support of his family and staff at the Radisson Hotel Fort George and Marina, Jim worked all year in preparation to compete for the first time in the Iron Man Triathlon Competition Cozumel, 2012.  Serving as Radisson's CEO, supporting family and maintaining leadership in several community endeavors, Jim entered into grueling and very disciplined training in order to compete, on his birthday to raise funds for much needed upgrades to the Dorothy Menzies Child Care facility.  The Rotary Club of Belize made a commitment to match and the donations, large and small pledges started rolling in."
