Coffee with Conservationists - EP. 04 - The Belize Zoo (Part II)

Video of the day. Jamal from The Belize Zoo & Tropical Education Center answers some common questions. There are around 45 different species of animals at the zoo. If you're interested in wildlife conservation or the zoo, it's more than worth a watch.

"Coffee with Conservationists kicked off its first ever episode with The Belize Zoo and Tropical Education Center. The zoo, which acts as a sanctuary for the indigenous animals of Belize, had so much to share with us that we’ve created a special part two feature. In this episode, we dig deeper into the behind-the-scenes conservation work that goes beyond the friendly faces of the residents we see when we visit the zoo. To save wildlife, we must save wild habitats. Conservationist Program Manager Jamal Andrewin-Bohn tells us more and shares a message for aspiring conservationists.

Eco Kids Learn About Wildlife

The Eco Kids learned a lot about Belizean wildlife.

"We were greeted with a surprise this morning, as a local fox snuck his way up to the kitchen looking for scraps.  What better way for the kids to begin a day focusing on Belizean wildlife than to get to experience it firsthand...  The highlight of the day, besides the pizza for lunch, was the visit from Belize Zoo founder and director, Sharon Matola, and educational officer, Jamal Andrewin.  The children had already heard that they could expect a visit from Happy, a barn owl used to help educate students on the importance of his species in our eco-systems."

Members from the Belize Zoo, human and animal, visited the Eco Kids.

"Today’s visitor was none other than MIss Sharon Matola and Jamal from the Belize Zoo, along with their friends Happy the Owl, Balboa the Boa and Rose the Crocodile.  Kids spent a hour and a half learnign about these amazing animals, and even got to get up close and personal with them.  As they learnt, Happy likes to be stroked on the nose, Rose likes to be pet on the back, and Balboa likes to be tickled under the chin. Some of the campers were a little frightened to touch Balboa the Boa, but as soon as they saw how friendly he was, they were crowding around to say hi."
