Galen University and Youth for Justice are teaming up for the "Youth Action Exhibition" that is being held under the theme “Snapshots of Sustainability, Culture, and Climate Justice” on Friday, November 24th, from 1 PM to 3:30 PM at The George Price Centre.

 

'This initiative created a space for young people to engage with each other on issues of community, culture, the climate crisis, and their dreams of sustainable and just futures. Youth were trained in participatory research and encouraged to become engaged scholars in their own communities and amplify their voices.'

The Belmopan Cancer Society's 2019 Pink Ribbon Gala will be at the George Price Centre on Saturday, October 19th.  The proceeds will go towards assisting cancer patients in the area.

Oceana Belize had their Wavemaker AGM at the George Price Centre this last weekend.  Congratulations to all the awardees.

 

"On Saturday October 20th, 2018, Belizeans from across the country came out in waves to the George Price Center in Belmopan to participate in Oceana’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) of its dedicated volunteers, our “Wavemakers”. Over two hundred and fifty Wavemakers from Corozal, Orange Walk, the Belize District, San Pedro, San Ignacio, Belmopan, Dangriga, Hopkins and Toledo attended this year’s event. During the meeting, several Wavemakers were awarded certificates of appreciation for their sensational above and beyond support for Oceana’s campaigns and initiatives over the past year. Among them were Kariel Slusher from the Belize District; the Department of Youth Services (DYS) and the Health Education and Community Participation Bureau (HECOPAB) from Corozal; the Ocean Academy Wavemakers Club from Caye Caulker; Arren Andrews and Whitney Majano of the Stann Creek District, and the Department of Youth Services (DYS) in Punta Gorda. Oceana was also proud to present a national award when we recognized Ms. Abigail Parham of Stann Creek District as the 2018 Wavemaker of the year. Ms. Abigail Parham has a degree in Natural Resources Management and a Master’s in Biodiversity Conservation and Sustainable Development...

 

Invited guest speaker was Mr. Gian Vasquez, History Lecturer at St. John’s College Junior College and Facilitator of the Referendum Unit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. His presentation focused on the history of Guatemala’s claim to Belize, the implications of either a yes or no vote at the referendum to be held in April 2019 to decide on taking this claim to the International Court of Justice, as well as the current pressures that continue to negatively affect Belize’s natural resources such as deforestation and illegal fishing. Mr. Vasquez’s presentation was followed by engaging dialogue during the question and answer segment. Most importantly, Vasquez stressed the importance of making an informed decision."

Mary Open Doors is having their Summer Strings concert on Satrday, July 14th, at the George Price Center.  Have a great time while supporting a wonderful cause.

SBDC and UB had the Entrepreneurship Symposium at the GPC.  Global Entrepreneurship Week has kicked off. EntreCon is Friday, and the winners of the Business Hackathon will be announced.

 

"The George Price Center for Peace and Development in Belmopan was filled to maximum capacity on Monday, 14th November as students from the University of Belize and Belizean entreprenuers converged to participate in the 4th annual Entrepreneurship Symposium.  The symposium was a joint venture between The Small Business Development Centre, Belize (SBDCBelize), a unit of Beltraide, and the University of Belize, Belmopan campus as part of activities in connection with Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW)."

The Belmopan chapter of the Belize Tourism Industry Association is having their first annual Belmopan Tourism Expo on Saturday, November 5th.  It'll be at the Blue Moon restaurant, and goes from 10:00am to 5:00pm.

The Belize Tourism Industry Association is having their AGM on Wednesday, July 6th, at the George Price Centre, from 10:00am to noon.  In the afternoon, Leah Chandler will have a seminar on strategic planning.

Video of the day This Christmas.  Mervin and Ruth Budram have written a magical Christmas Song.  It has a beautiful melody, perfect lyrics, and the right Christmas message.  The video, which was filmed in one continuous shot, was recently released.  It's a beautiful song, and worth many listens.

The 2nd annual Belizean Christmas concert is on Friday, December 7th.  Mervin Budram and Alida Sharp will be performing many Christmas hits, including songs they've written.  It's all happening at the George Price Centre in Belmopan.
