In related news, the GPC is offering Quickbooks classes next week, and every Friday this month they are showing movies on the life of Peace Pilgrim.  The Cayo Coca Cola Spelling Bee will take place there on the 20th.  They are also having a Kite Contest next month.

The George Price Centre will be having EBSCOhost training today.  EBSCO will be free for Belizeans.  They'll have 2 sessions this evening, one for teachers, and one for parents and students.

"The National Institute of Culture and History is truly grateful to all those who participated in making the Traditional Healers Forum a success.  We are conscious of the profound importance of traditional knowledge and traditional medicine.  We give special recognition to the Healers/Practitioners who have a commitment to practice, share, and preserve the knowledge of our ancestors.  Their suggestions and recommendations will be included in the National Cultural Policy to be published in March of 2013.  Additionally, a subsequent Healers Forum is scheduled for February 2013."

The George Price Centre had scores of activities through the Summer, including quite a few Summer camps.  The had computer camps, chess camps, a 'reading is fun' camp, and their PEACE camp too.  They are reminiscing about the awesome Summer they had.

 

"With the dust of the many September activities now settled and the grey skies hovering over Belmopan, we thought it would be nice if we could take a look back at the fantastic summer we shared with 125 youngsters at the Centre! ... Thank you to all the volunteers who assisted us and to all the children and youth who participated.  We can't wait for next summer to come!!!"

The Belize National Youth Chess Foundation is doing a chess class for beginners at the George Price Centre this week.  It's targeted at kids between the ages of 4 and 7.  The link goes to pictures of BELPO visiting the last chess camp.

 

"Corozal did their camps , OW too, W Cayo did theirs, Stann creek is getting ready with their camps, Toledo is finishing one more week soon, and east cayo will have camp for 4-7 year old ones next week- aug 13-17th- great chess summer.  Coaches need time for a break!"

Feelgood news of the day.  The Combat Team awarded orange belts to many of their students.  They departed Belize yesterday, but after visiting many schools around Cayo(BCS), and having an exhibition at the GPC, they left an inspiration of God and an understanding of karate in their wake.  Godspeed, and thank you, Combat Team!  


"All the kids tested for their belts last night and our instructor.  The kids were so excited to received their Orange Advanced belts!  Great things are happening at our Belize Karate School!"

Chess Club at GPC

Tomorrow at the George Price Centre, the Belize National Youth Chess Association, will be starting up their chess club again.  Ages 8 and older can sign up for all levels.  Sign up is 4:00pm sharp.

The Belmopan International Women's Group is having their 6th annual dinner dance fundraiser tonight at the George Price Centre.

 

"The group assists members by introducing them to various aspects of Belizean life.  They also aim to assist welfare projects in the Belmopan and Cayo areas.  Currently, their programmes include monthly food parcels for 8 families in the Cayo district.  They also provide clothing for Hospitals to help new mothers and young children and recently added the Palm Center in Belmopan to their projects.  The Palm Center is a home for mentally challenged persons.  The group donates clothing, toiletries, games, books, magazines, DVD's, CD's as well as anything that could help them create a vegetable garden."

If you missed the Coca Cola exhibit in Cayo or Benque, you can catch it at the George Price Centre where it will be until September 14th.

 

"A wonderful display of colours, cultural scenes and concepts - 50 paintings by professional and amateur artists from all over the country on the theme: "Moments of Happiness" - celebrating 50 years of Coca Cola in Belize.  The exhibit will be on display until September 14.
