No existe en la obra de Freud, a pesar del papel preponderante de la droga en sus comienzos profesionales, ningún ensayo detallado sobre el alcoholismo o la drogadicción, salvo sus estudios cuando era neurólogo. En el año 1884 se produjo el encuentro entre Sigmund Freud y la cocaína, poco después de la introducción de esta droga en los Estados Unidos y Europa. Comenzó a interesarse por sus propiedades y efectos, convirtiéndose en un ferviente usuario y defensor de la misma. Inició una serie de investigaciones experimentales sobre sus efectos en el hombre y trató de utilizarla para frenar la adicción a la morfina de un amigo suyo, Ernst von Fleischl-Marxow. Las consecuencias de estos experimentos y las ulteriores polémicas, le indujeron a abandonar sus investigaciones acerca de su acción sobre el sistema nervioso central, aunque podemos inferir por "La interpretación de los sueños" que todavía utilizaba la droga en el año 1895.

The Quichwa people living here are easy going and humble, and they have big traditions of shamanism, so you can find someone easily. Don’t expect great figures talking about spirituality in the style of Sacred Valley near Cuzco, these shamans are farmers in rubber boots who work with ayahuasca to get curse out of the house or your liver.
