Ethnopharmacobotanical study on the medicinal plants used by herbalists in Sulaymaniyah Province, Kurdistan, Iraq
- Journal of Ethnobiology and Ethnomedicine

Ethnopharmacobotanical study on the medicinal plants used by herbalists in Sulaymaniyah Province, Kurdistan, Iraq<br/>- Journal of Ethnobiology and Ethnomedicine | Ayahuasca News | Scoop.it

Medicinal plants still play an important role in the Kurdish community. Sulaymaniyah Province in South Kurdistan (Iraq) has a great diversity of plants, including medicinal plants, yet very few scattered ethnobotanical studies conducted in Kurdistan are available in the scientific literature. Thus the study of Kurdish ethnobotany may be crucial for understanding local medicinal plant uses and their relationships to surrounding areas. Therefore, the objective of this investigation was to document traditional medicinal plant uses among healers of southern Kurdistan.

What indigenous groups traditionally use Ayahuasca?

What indigenous groups traditionally use Ayahuasca? | Ayahuasca News | Scoop.it
“Ground zero” of Ayahuasca usage is the northwestern region of the Amazon Basin where Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, and Brazil come together (see red-outlined area on map). Close to 100% of indigenous ethnic groups here traditionally use Ayahuasca (and this also contains the centers of mestizo traditional usage, Iquitos and Pucallpa in Peru). Beyond that (see fuschia-outlined area on map) Ayahuasca is used by a large majority of the indigenous peoples. Ayahuasca is also used by several indigenous groups outside of this area of traditional usage: the Tsachila and Chachi of the northern coast of Ecuador, the Embera of western Colombia and the Choco of northwestern Colombia near the Panama border, and some Guarani groups in eastern Bolivia, which may have adopted Ayahuasca in modern times. (See light blue areas.)

Focusing-oriented Psychotherapy as a Supplement to Preparation for Psychedelic Therapy - Alicia Danforth, M.A.

Participants need to prepare in advance for psychedelic therapy sessions. However, due to the decades-long dormancy of psychedelic experimental treatment with human subjects, a gap exists in the research concerning specific techniques for optimizing the potential psychologicaland psychospiritual benefits of psychedelic medicines and for reducing the risk of harmful experiences. As a result, participants may be asked to set an intention for their sessions withouthaving a clear understanding of how to accomplish that step. Focusing-Oriented approaches topsychotherapy may support and enhance pre-session preparation for psychedelic therapy byproviding facilitators with a means of teaching an embodied intention-setting technique.

Seven Years In Peru: Ayahuasca Saved My Life. ~ Mark Flaherty

Seven Years In Peru: Ayahuasca Saved My Life. ~ Mark Flaherty | Ayahuasca News | Scoop.it

Back in 2005, ravaged by an extreme and aggressive skin disorder, every day was a battle of agonizing pain and sanity-threatening itching that drove me to the brink of suicide. The doctors in England were less than helpful.

“Eczema is incurable,” several specialists told me, “All we can do is manage the symptoms.”

But even their strongest steroid cream could do nothing for me.
I tried every kind of alternative treatment I could think of without success: acupuncture, Chinese herbs, raw foods, fasting, Reiki and hypnotherapy. All the while a little voice in my head kept saying, “Ayahuasca can help. Ayahuasca can heal you.”

Leo Perutz and the Mystery of St Peter's Snow

Leo Perutz and the Mystery of St Peter's Snow | Ayahuasca News | Scoop.it
A novel published in 1933, describes the isolation of a hallucinogenic drug from an ergot-type fungus. It remarkably predates the discovery the hallucinogenic properties of the ergot-derived alkaloid lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) by ten years. It also identifies ergot as the secret psychoactive sacrament of the ancient mysteries forty years before this hypothesis became a matter of academic and scientific investigation. In the novel, a central character plans to use an ergot derived drug as an agent of popular religious renewal, prefiguring the New Age religious revival initiated by the popular use of LSD. The story involves the mass testing of a hallucinogenic drug on the unsuspecting inhabitants of an isolated village almost twenty years before the Pont St Esprit incident of 1951, which has been ascribed to the CIA’s plans for experimental dosing of unsuspecting civilians with psychoactive drugs. This article investigates how the author could have managed to foresee these future events in such prophetic detail and reveals the sources that were available. In this article the history of psychoactive drugs is set in the context of the political, scientific, literary, and philosophical culture of the interwar period and shows that the cultural history of psychoactive drugs is enhanced by such context

Why the Heroin Trade Helped Defeat the US in Afghanistan - Encod.org

Why the Heroin Trade Helped Defeat the US in Afghanistan - Encod.org | Ayahuasca News | Scoop.it
In October 2001, the U.S. launched its invasion of Afghanistan largely through proxy Afghan fighters with the help of Special Operations forces, American air power, and CIA dollars. The results were swift and stunning. The Taliban was whipped, a new government headed by Hamid Karzai soon installed in Kabul, and the country declared “liberated.”
