Could a standard set of rubrics be used to assess in-class student work for cross-cutting skills like writing, critical thinking, problem-solving and quantitative analysis?

'The important thing here is it’s authentic work and not just teaching to the test'.
Although this a tertiary level pilot study, the implications for K-12 school-based assessment are just as relevant and important for interdisciplinary pedagogical approaches such as Project-based Learning, Inquiry and STEM. First, they set out to define the essential learning outcomes that faculty, employers and accreditors saw as important. They settled on 16 qualities, some of which are: critical thinking, writing, quantitative literacy, oral communication, ethics, teamwork, intercultural understanding, and integrating learning from one area to another.

I read evaluation within project-based learning and it is very interesting how teachers makes certain assessment parts in this methodology. It is really curious that not all the emphasis is made on the final result, but the teachers take into account different assessment durinng the whole process. It is important to mention that not only students receive feedback from their teachers, but also from the audience and their classmates.

This contrastive chart show us the difference between formative and summative assessment. It is important for novice teacher to have these differences in mind. In nowadays, the educational system are only focused in summative assessment taking aside the formative one. Even novice teachers are not aware of how to implement formative assessment in their classes and this document provides clear examples of both of them.

Project based learning, a model that has definitely struck a chord with modern education system, is a fine tuned learning model that will address major learning issues. When you have group learning, you will see that both individual as well as group learning needs are fulfilled, and both the group and individual learn the subject matter and gain knowledge. It is highly important to consider assessment when you are training students using this model for furthering their education needs and standards.
