Des agriculteurs japonais ont recommencé à cultiver du riz à seulement 15 kilomètres de la centrale nucléaire accidentée de Fukushima Daiichi, a indiqué mercredi 22 mai un responsable local. C'est la première fois qu'une telle activité reprend à l'intérieur de l'ancienne zone interdite de 20 km autour du complexe atomique depuis le tremblement de terre et le tsunami du 11 mars 2011. Samedi, trois agriculteurs ont planté environ six hectares de rizières près de la localité de Tamura "et ça se passe bien, d'autant que la météo est clémente", a précisé le responsable des questions agricoles de Fukushima, Tsuneaki Oonami. "Nous avons considérablement décontaminé les rizières et avons amené de l'eau jusqu'ici pour l'irrigation", a-t-il expliqué, conscient qu'il faudra encore combattre des "rumeurs dévastatrices" sur les produits locaux. Les agriculteurs utilisent de l'engrais contenant du potassium pour aider à combattre l'absorption de césium radioactif par les plants de riz. Tout le riz récolté sera contrôlé avant son expédition pour être vendu, assure Tsuneaki Oonami. La zone interdite a été redessinée pour permettre aux gens d'avoir accès aux parties où le niveau de radiation a été jugé relativement peu élevé. Des dizaines de milliers de personnes ne peuvent toutefois toujours pas regagner leurs domiciles. Depuis avril 2012, les habitants de cette zone sont autorisés à y revenir pendant la journée, mais ne peuvent y passer la nuit.
