If MIT truly wants to atone for joining the federal case against Swartz, it should do something much grander: It should pledge to spend its money, prestige and moral authority to launch a multi-university campaign to free every scholarly article from behind pay-wall archives like JSTOR. In other words, MIT should pledge to finish the project Swartz started. ...

The Aaron Swartz JSTOR liberator is a tiny bit of civil disobedience, presented to you in clicktivism form. By running this bookmarklet (which you should not do if you are not comfortable potentially violating terms of service), you will visit JSTOR, a keeper of academic articles, be presented with a random paper, and will download a single paper from the site. You will have to click a terms of service agreement agreeing to not share the document you are reading, yet you will then download it and uploaded to another server. It will also ask for a message of memorial about Aaron. We will be gathering your messages of memorial and rememberance of Aaron to put up soon.
Aaron Swartz, an internet activist and open content advocate, set up an automated pair of laptops to download large numbers of documents from JSTOR in 2011. Caught doing so, he was ultimately charged with 35 years of prison time and millions of dollars in fees, even after JSTOR withdrew from the case and settled with him. Facing the potential of spending the next decades in jail and suffering from depression, Aaron took his own life in January of 2013. He is remembered with fondness, love, and respect the world over and the lives he touched. In his memory, this small site might serve to help more people learn who he was and what he believed in. Archive Team misses Aaron very much.

Greg Leuch is a user interface designer, interaction designer, visual designer, front-end web developer, and open-source artist. Pop Block wants to help users manage their content bubble, by allowing them to control content visibility while browsing the web. Blocking and hiding content is notably achieved through advertising blocking extensions, but the everyday web content we consume contains many more things we may not wish to see. By launching a customizable keyword blocker through browser extensions, Pop Block gives users the ability to control their engagement with content while browsing. This approach allows users to manage a list of keywords that synchronize wherever they have installed the extension.

The COMMUNIA Thematic Network has been working for over three years at becoming a European point of reference for theoretical analysis and strategic policy discussion of existing and emerging issues concerning the public domain in the digital environment - as well as related topics, including, but not limited to, alternative forms of licensing for creative material; open access to scientific publications and research results; management of works whose authors are unknown (i.e. orphan works). Funded by the European Commission within the eContentplus framework, the 3-years long project expects to provide policy guidelines that will help each stakeholder involved - public and private, from the local to the European and global level. The core of the network is represented by its members. The founding members are 36, with five more members added in September 2008, and ten more added at beginning of the third year (September 2009) - for a total of 51 members. COMMUNIA is also building strategic relationships with other non-European countries (starting with the United States and Brazil, where two COMMUNIA members are located) in which similar policy discussions are currently underway. COMMUNIA is coordinated by the Politecnico of Torino's NEXA Research Center for Internet and Society. It started its activities on 1 September 2007 and will end on 28 February 2011 (after a six-month extension granted by the EU).

Truth commandos deliver hilariously awkward hijinks exposing injustice and challenging everyone to join the revolution. The Yes Men Are Revolting is a funny, action-packed adventure. With the environment on the brink of collapse, we ask a pressing question: at a time when corporate forces have bought and sold democracy, how can we effect real change? Our answer: get every viewer involved in the struggle.
The Yes Men Are Revolting completes a trilogy of funny feature docs we started a decade ago. In our first film, The Yes Men (2004), we posed as spokespeople for the World Trade Organization, acting out comedic vigilante justice against the elite. In The Yes Men Fix the World (2009), we delivered a bunch of hard-hitting, hilarious stunts that show why we must change our corporations-first system, and what’s in store if we don’t. The Yes Men Are Revolting will be even more jam-packed with screwball comedy, nail-biting suspense, nasty stings, and informative documentary. It'll also have a gripping personal storyline the first two films lacked—as well as a human-staffed platform to convert viewer enthusiasm into direct action, letting everyone join in the fun and contribute to the movement for change. ...

Research and recent innovations have led to an amazing increase of types and uses of visual displays and screens; indeed, in our predominantly visual culture, they are everywhere. A typical person carries at least one device with a screen, is presented with them in public places, uses them at work and in many leisure activities. They are so ingrained in our everyday acts and habits that we don’t even notice them anymore. L.S.D invites its users to engage in a new perception of their daily environment. L.S.D feeds on light via two LDR (light depending resistor) mounted on a suction cup, allowing the sensors to be mounted on any screen surface. An analogue synthesizer converts the light input to sound waves. This device can be used in many different configurations and feeds from any light sources. Even if L.S.D can be controlled by any light source, its design is aimed at screen reading/listening.

2010 was the first year that the UK Parliamentary elections included American style television debates between the party leaders. The organizers of the FutureEverything festival in Manchester, England had seen footage of our US Debate remix, ReConstitution, and invited us to do something similar for a live audience over there. We have now fully integrated the LIWC text analysis libraries to track things like emotion and self-reference in our software. The show was streamed live, a first for us, on April 29th.

The Projection Foundation is a network of film festivals and organizations working together to provide ‘offline’ and underrepresented communities with the tools and training necessary to exchange their stories through local cinema screenings and regional open air film festivals. The Projection Foundation combines village-based media production & open air film festivals to help ‘offline’ communities to project and broadcast their narratives across multiple media channels. Our first product is an online community designed to link projectionists around the world with filmmakers, content producers, and storytellers. Through the Projectionists.org community, projectionists can share the skills of their trade and work together to span the digital divide that still exists in many parts of the world. This community will also serve as a forum to showcase participants’ work. We will encourage comments and video responses from observers around the world that will be projected back to the local communities using our projection systems.

This is my first post in DIY Drones. I would like to share with the comunity my last work related to UAVs. I'm currently working on my thesis for graduation as an electronic engineering at the University of Buenos Aires. My thesis is based on a embedded control system and in this post I'm presenting the Flight computer that holds the control algorithms. My thesis is more an academic research than a hardware/software project, but I decided to do my own powerful board to test it. Above is the FLCv2p0 (Flight computer v2.0). The first version was a homemade attempt and now this is the new version ...

Fab' lab', imprimantes 3D...

Two Degrees 2011 aimed to reflect world events since the first festival in 2009: failed climate treaty negotiations, financial disasters and government cuts. Protest and activism have hit the headlines, from revolutionary movements in the Middle East to London’s biggest protests for nearly ten years. And away from the mainstream media eye there is a growth of alternative and inspiring solutions to our impending climate crisis. Sitting between art and activism, performance and protest, 2011's festival was a chance to be part of artist led actions; tell your own revolutionary story, help eradicate an invasive species, go on a mass bingo bike ride, ask an expert about the future or exchange your own personal and political views for a free haircut. Join in, take part and make your voice heard.
