Sansar is a new social, virtual-reality world coming later this year from the company behind Second Life. In theory, you can do whatever you want in virtual reality, and my VR tour guide and I are taking this seriously: we’re dressed like aliens (he’s red; I’m green), standing on the stern of a floating ship looking out at beautiful tiny islands levitating in the distance and a serene garden below us. Where else can we go? The possibilities are limitless, in a sense, because we could also just build a new virtual space to hang out in if what we want doesn’t exist...

This two-year online exhibition will present 100 artworks from net art history, restaging and contextualizing one project each week. Devised in concert with Rhizome's acclaimed digital preservation department, Net Art Anthology also aims to address the shortage of historical perspectives on a field in which even the most prominent artworks are often inaccessible. The series takes on the complex task of identifying, preserving, and presenting exemplary works in a field characterized by broad participation, diverse practices, promiscuous collaboration, and rapidly shifting formal and aesthetic standards, sketching a possible net art canon.

DADA-DATA celebrates 100 years of the Dada movement. It’s a viral, vibrant, living homage, connected to our times like DADA was at war with its own. Stroll through our Depot, an ever-changing anti-museum of major DADA works. And take part in the weekly Hacktions. Dada-Data is a digital project with a storm of interactive Dada events called “Dada Hacktions.” On the other hand, it will be an online anti-museum, the DADA-Depot.

ACOUSTIC CAMERAS invites composers and sound artists to annex the real-time flow of webcams located in various places around the world. The flow of webcams is intercepted but not modified. The artist is invited to deliver a sound piece or piece of music related to this flow; This sound piece acting as a modification of reality. The resulting work is the encounter of a recorded sound piece and the live capture of a fluctuating landscape. Depending on the season, depending on weather, depending on time of day or night, the camera sweeps continuously the filmed location (seaside, city or mountain) and writes in real time the film of the artist's music. Music or sound design, by monopolizing the filmed landscape, soon takes on a narrative, dramatic dimension, according to the principles of film music. At the slight difference that here the film is written simultaneously... A proposal by Christophe Demarthe, co-edited by Optical Sound (Pierre Beloüin & P. Nicolas Ledoux) and la manufacture des Cactées (Didier Hochart & Thierry Weyd).

Interactive magazine about new technologies meeting culture worldwide. Information for digital art, heritage, digitization, photography, projects.
The phenomenon of globalisation and the spread of digital infrastructures – which are both the means and the cause of globalisation itself – have been creating an interrelation among the fields of culture, once considered very distant. Today, the sciences, the arts, the humanities, while retaining irreducible differences, tend to meet, contaminate and mutually enrich through the use of new media and new technologies.
DIGITALMEETSCULTURE is intended as a portal for gathering information about the digital culture in the world, taking into account the different approaches that science, cultural heritage and arts have to the digital age. This portal aims to act as a reference point and as a valuable mean of information and communication for different users in a global dimension. It is conceived as a meeting place between technologies and arts & humanities.

How to Apply:
Start by registering on the EFFE Professional Community or log in if you already have a festival profile. Click “Yes, I want to apply” when saving your profile. Detailed instructions on how to apply can be found here. Use your login to sign in and begin your application. You can save the application and complete it later. You can spend as much time as you want working on your proposal – we can't view it until you submit it. All required fields must be filled in. The administration fee must be paid before the application is confirmed, either by credit card (PayPal) or Bank transfer. The deadline is 17 February 2017. Don’t miss it!

This text has been written for the proceedings of the international conference "New Perspectives, New Technologies", organized by the Doctoral School Ca' Foscari - IUAV in Arts History and held in Venice and Pordenone, Italy in October 2011 In the late nineties and during the first decade of this century the term “new media art” became the established label for that broad range of artistic practices that includes works that are created, or in some way deal with, new media technologies. Providing a more detailed definition here would inevitably mean addressing topics beyond the scope of this paper, that I discussed extensively in my book Media, New Media, Postmedia (Quaranta 2010). By way of introduction to the issues discussed in this paper, we can summarize the main argument put forward in the book: that this label, and the practices it applies to, developed mostly in an enclosed social context, sometimes called the “new media art niche”, but that would be better described as an art world in its own right, with its own institutions, professionals, discussion platforms, audience, and economic model, and its own idea of what art is and should be; and that only in recent years has the practice managed to break out of this world, and get presented on the wider platform of contemporary art. ...

It consists of 16 festivals and art centres and aims to support, promote and exchange innovative and aspiring musicians and interdisciplinary artists with an interest in sound. SHAPE attempts to present a variety of idiosyncratic music and sonic art from all over Europe, and provide audiences and professionals with insightful lectures, talks and workshops by experts in various fields related to sound and performance.
The platform was formed by members of ICAS (International Cities of Advanced Sound) – a global network of independent non-profit organizations dedicated to advancing sound cultures, music and related arts.
Each year, the 16 involved associations will collectively choose 48 creatively strong artists and musicians to participate in a mix of live performances, residencies, workshops and talks across festivals and special events.
However, it is also possible for musicians and artists to apply for becoming participants of SHAPE for 2016 or 2017 (deadline: 30 April 2016). Musicians are asked to send an approximately 10 minute long streamable video or audio excerpt of their live performance to info (at) shapeplatform (dot) eu (no attachments please, only links).
Audiovisual artists are asked to send streamable video documentation of their work (up to 10 minutes in length) to the aforementioned e-mail. Materials that are not sent in accordance to these requirements, will not be considered.
As the creation of the annual SHAPE artist roster is rather complex and demands consensus from 16 different organizations, we will not be able to get back to artists or musicians with detailed evaluations of the submitted materials. However, they will be contacted in the case if they’re chosen for SHAPE rosters of 2016 or 2017.

Besides NewMediaFest, also ENGAD – Engaged Arts Directory was initiated by Agricola de Cologne in 2001 – so it’s the time to celebrate also this project’s 15th anniversary. ENGAD was established as a media art platform following the curatorial goal to encourage contemporary artists using new media to deal with engaged contents reflecting political, cultural and social developments on Earth. As a platform, the project is representing an appeal against any totalitarianism – this is good especially in these time when there are continuously attempts to restrict and even eliminate freedom and the democratic rights and values – tendencies which can be obswerved in all parts on the globe, and especially in these countries which have a democratic constitution. So, an eseential goal of ENGAD is to activate and sensitize the artists and the audience alike via new approaches and technologies. ...

We started in 2013 with a commitment to help people everywhere learn how to program, connect and create Internet-connected hardware. Today, our community has grown to 50,000 developers, makers and entrepreneurs who build projects as means for learning and discovery.
We put people and learning ahead of commercial interests, and we’ve built an amazing network of partners who believe in our mission: if we do our job right, Hackster will accelerate the solving of really big problems. By equipping inventive people with the resources they need, we hope to help them create technologies that impact meaningful issues, such as a healthy environment, wildlife preservation, and our own welfare.
