Bonsai-NO.39 by Shen Shaomin

Bonsai-NO.39 by Shen Shaomin | Art Installations, Sculpture, Contemporary Art | Scoop.it

Shen Shaomin / 沈少民 : "Bonsai-NO.39", Eli Klein Fine Art, 2007

size: h: 36.6 x w: 54.4 x d: 27.5 in / h: 93 x w: 138.2 x d: 69.8 cm, materials: Plants, iron tools

Shaomin's bonsai works use the manipulation and torture of these plants in order to question our current attitudes towards consumption and nature whilst examining Chinese culture. The intimately scaled, beautiful and ancient looking trees are twisted and buckled using metal instruments reminiscent of dental equipment. Accompanied by text these small objects question the viewers sense of their own environments and the concerned yet oblivious perspective the majority of us exercise on a day-to-day basis.

Aesthetically these small scaled works conjure ideas of destruction versus nurture and traditional versus industrial, awakening the uncanny.

Musical tree

Musical tree | Art Installations, Sculpture, Contemporary Art | Scoop.it

The German BUND association advocates for the protection of trees. To do this, the agency Proximity BBDO Germany had the idea of creating a new device combining harmoniously nature and music. They selected a huge chestnut Monbijoupark of Berlin and installed at its base a structure consisting of polymeric membranes. All the chestnuts fallen from the tree automatically are creating a set of sound and light. This poetic installation allows to generate natural music, and famous tree that embodies the strength of all its congeners in urban areas.
Visitors who enjoy this free concert are invited to donate money to the association by SMS.

Mathilde Roussel: Lifes of Grass

Mathilde Roussel: Lifes of Grass | Art Installations, Sculpture, Contemporary Art | Scoop.it

French artist Mathilde Roussel created these amazing grass sculptural installations entitled Lifes of Grass.

"The natural world, ingested as food becomes a component of human being. Through these anthropomorphic and organic sculptures made of soil and wheat grass seeds, I strive to show that food, it’s origin, it’s transport, has an impact on us beyond it’s taste. The power inside it affects every organ of our body. Observing nature and being aware of what and how we eat makes us more sensitive to food cycles in the world – of abundance, of famine – and allows us to be physically, intellectually and spiritually connected to a global reality."

Exhibited at the 2010 Crossing the Line FIAF Festival at Invisible Dog Gallery, Brooklyn, NY

Wela : "Crown of Thorns"

Wela : "Crown of Thorns" | Art Installations, Sculpture, Contemporary Art | Scoop.it

Wela (Elisabeth Wierzbicka), an enviromental installation: "Crown of Thorns", 2011, Paris International Golf Club, Baillet-en-France

Crown of thorns, borrowed from Christianity, Wela symbolizes both the vivacity of nature, considering it as a creation much more complex than can be that of an artist, and the image of a nature suffering, what we need to defend and protect.

analogías profundas, ejemplificando el sufrimiento que un día se vivió y ahora, comparando con la naturaleza que sufre y debemos cuidar.
