What is the future of technology in education?

What is the future of technology in education? | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it
Forget devices, the future of education technology is all about the cloud and anywhere access. In the future, teaching and learning is going to be social, says Matt Britland

What we must remember is that when schools adopt new technology and services, they must be evaluated. This way, as a school, you know if they are successful and what improvements are needed. Staff will also need training, you can't expect staff to use new technology if it they are not confident users or creators. Any initiative is doomed to failure without well trained, confident staff who can see how technology can support and benefit teaching and learning.

How Great Leaders Communicate

How Great Leaders Communicate | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it
What you say and write matters, but how you say it, how you relate and genuinely connect with people, is what separates great leaders from the pack.

Become an emotional storyteller. It’s often said that people don’t remember facts; they remember stories. That’s not entirely true. It’s actually personal stories told with genuine feeling that have the potential to reach deep and connect with people in the soul of their being. If a personal story and the emotion behind it relates to people in a personal way, it will stick with them and motivate them to action.

There’s a big problem with our communication-happy world. We put a premium on frequency and content while sacrificing something perhaps more important: the delivery. Of course what you say and write matters, but how you say it, how you relate to people, is what separates great leaders from the pack.

Mission Critical: Championing-Empowering-Enabling Our Individual And Organizational Ability To Win | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

Change is not the obstacle, it is the answer.  Embracing our ability to champion positive change starts with a focus on the words we use.  Change is NOT difficult, it is our greatest power and hope for a better future.  Change is what our bodies and minds so every second of the day.

Our ability to move out of Jurassic Park by developing our individual and organization potential is real.  It requires focus, courage, integrity and a relentless desire to be part of the solution rather than running on overdrive, getting stuck in stasis or burying one’s head in the sand or under the rock of complacency.

The most successful people in business have talent and luck. But author Adam Grant says they share another quality: They give back.

There's a reason why the biblical phrase "it is better to give than to receive" is so popular. Just ask Wharton business professor Adam Grant. While hard work, talent, and luck matter, Grant's new book Give and Take: A Revolutionary Approach to Success suggests the most successful people in business have something else in common:

PAS 555 is very clear that effective cyber security isn’t just something your ‘IT boffins can take care of’, it’s about making the right security investment by assessing the risks and addressing people and processes, as well as technology.

According to PAS 555 an effective strategy encompasses:

- People

- Behaviour

- Physical security

- Equipment security

- Governance

- Leadership

- Culture

- Technology

Gust MEES's insight:

Along with CESG’s 10 Steps to Cyber Security and CSI’s 20 Critical Controls for Cyber Security, PAS 555 forms the basis of the new Managing Cyber Security Risk course – which helps senior managers to create a cyber security risk management strategy, based on current best practice frameworks.

As well as helping you to create a strategy that’s right for your organisation – this course will also help you to tackle the difficult bit – delivering the strategy!

So as you can see, it is important to master a number of different styles, while remaining aware of the style you naturally prefer.

About Education Week Leaders To Learn From

In an environment of tight resources, tough academic challenges, and increasingly stiff competition from new education providers, smart leadership may matter more than ever for the success of America’s school districts. Against this backdrop, Education Week introduces the first of what will be an annual Leaders To Learn From report—a way to recognize forward-thinking education leaders and share their ideas.

This 2013 report, created with support from the Wallace Foundation, profiles 16 district-level leaders—superintendents, associate superintendents, and others—who seized on creative but practical approaches and put them to work in their school districts.

To help find these leaders, Education Week put out a call to readers for nominees, starting last June. We also sought nominations from the leaders of administrators’ groups in most of the 50 states, as well as from members of the Education Writers Association, a Washington-based organization that includes local education reporters around the country.

5 Things People Must Change About The Way They Lead

5 Things People Must Change About The Way They Lead | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

Leadership is about sharing, giving – making those around you better.   Leadership is about uniting and inspiring teams to optimally perform.   Leadership is caring about a societal cause that the business can influence.  This is what most businesses refer to as corporate social responsibility.

Leadership is indeed a social responsibility, yet many people are out of touch with how to be an effective leader.   Many people believe that because they carry an important title or have tenure within the organization, others will automatically follow them.

Today, leadership is much more than just authority – it’s about being ethical and staying true to your beliefs and values.

Steve Urquhart's curator insight, May 1, 2013 8:19 AM

If you can’t be clear about what you stand for, it will be impossible for you to lead with clarity.

Rik Stegehuis's curator insight, May 8, 2013 12:05 AM

My interpretation of Leadership that I like to share with you today is that Leadership begins within ourselves first, before anything else.

How can we be a true, authentic and integrated leader if we do not really know who we are? Ask yourself right now: WHO am I ? It's not as easy as you think, because I am sure you end up giving answers to WHAT am I or WHAT do I do? That's the way we were programmed to answer: it reflects WHAT we are on the outside, not WHO we are on the inside. Get the point?

Bring this into your personal life, become a leader of yourself first. Then become the leader of your own life. Live your live on your terms, not on someone else's...

To get started on this, take some time for yourself without any distractions, in a different place than your usually are and reflect. Write down (with a pen and paper) what your Personal Vision is (your WHY), your Personal Mission (your WHAT) and your Personal Values and Principles (HOW) and be surprised about yourself what's coming up to the surface...DO IT and HAVE FUN!

Blogging About The Web 2.0 Connected Classroom | Thoughts... | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

Blogging is an important part of who I am as a professional. I can use this space to share resources with you, reflect on my own practice and try to figure out how to be a better educator. It is my public reflection on technology, leadership and learning.

Think about when you were in school. You write an essay. Who read it? Most likely the teacher and that is where it ended. You pour hours and hours into reflections on Shakespear, the economic and political effects of wars on society or how plants have evolved over time, yet the only person who read your thoughts are the teacher. Maybe you shared with a close friend or even the class. But generally the world was unaware of your thoughts and feelings.

Blogging changes that for kids. Now the audience is global and anyone can read, and in some cases respond and comment. Kids can post their writing, projects, thoughts and reflections. Teachers can provide prompts or starters and kids can pick up and run with it.
