| #DigitalCitiZENship #ICT #SocialMedia | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

Erasmus+ Project Results | Theatre, a vector of choice? | Language learning | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it
Theatre, a vector of choice?

Theatre, is a text, a writing, an idea, a union of words, expressions, pulled from a sheet of paper, embodied in reality. Emotions expressed and interactions that are played between the protagonists of a moment. The text, first dissected to reveal all its meaning and its implications, must be stored or memorized prior to be interpreted. Played: the secret is finally exposed, play, like a child, think and believe it is true and keep that memory implanted. Learning through theatre is a wonderful method in the literal sense of the word: Students do not feel the constraints of learning and do not suffer from slow and often tedious methods. It is active.

Their bodies start to move in accordance with their senses, their minds. They act. Thus, plunging themselves into a procedure without even wondering if they have the basic knowledge to get there.

The theatre opens up a whole new universe for language teaching by making it accessible to all, any category of age, from all classes, educated or less educated.

[Gust MEES] I created a piece of theatre to learn about Cyber Security (in French):

How Blockchain is the Key to a Secure IoT | #CyberSecurity #InternetOfThings

How Blockchain is the Key to a Secure IoT | #CyberSecurity #InternetOfThings  | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it
The solution for Smeets and his team though is not to pile on extra layers of authentication, but rather to distribute them. And that's where blockchain comes it. Because the blockchain functions via a distributed and encrypted ledger shared across all of a network's users and devices, it creates a network of authentication that is verifiable and not easily hacked.

With blockchain implemented, a device cannot access a network unless it is verified through the entire ledger. In this scenario attacks like Mirai become significantly more difficult, if not impossible, because a hacker would need to modify the entire ledger, and not just the credentials of any one device.

Ericcson Research demonstrated a proof-of-concept of this idea at the 2017 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this past March. The researchers set up a small WiFi network that used blockchain authentication instead of a typical username/password setup.

Computers and the Future of Skill Demand | #OECD #Books #DigitalSkills #ICT #Research

Computers and the Future of Skill Demand | #OECD #Books #DigitalSkills #ICT #Research | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it
Computer scientists are working on reproducing all human skills using artificial intelligence, machine learning and robotics. Unsurprisingly then, many people worry that these advances will dramatically change work skills in the years ahead and perhaps leave many workers unemployable.

This report develops a new approach to understanding these computer capabilities by using a test based on the OECD’s Survey of Adult Skills (PIAAC) to compare computers with human workers. The test assesses three skills that are widely used at work and are an important focus of education: literacy, numeracy and problem solving with computers.

Most workers in OECD countries use the three skills every day. However, computers are close to reproducing these skills at the proficiency level of most adults in the workforce. Only 13% of workers now use these skills on a daily basis with a proficiency that is clearly higher than computers.

The findings raise troubling questions about whether most workers will be able to acquire the skills they need as these new computer capabilities are increasingly used over the next few decades. To answer those questions, the report’s approach could be extended across the full range of work skills. We need to know how computers and people compare across all skills to develop successful policies for work and education for the future.

Die Digitalisierung beginnt im Kopf | #FlippedMind #ICT  | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

Why Digital Transformation Won't Succeed Without Cultural Change | #ICT #Infographic #Digitalisierung | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it
A lot of businesses frequently use the term Digital Transformation, but what does it actually mean?

We have become so accustomed to digital technology, we are no longer able to imagine life without it. And yet, when it comes to the digital transformation of the work environment, we still have a long way to go. The greatest obstacle for digital transformation is simply, people.

Make digital transformation a capability, not a project; transform operations not just customer experience #hbrwebinar @gwesterman

— Parag Gogate (@paraggogate) 18 août 2017

There are a number of things that don’t have to do with technical innovations that are going to make the process more complicated. That’s not to say that creating the proper infrastructure to accommodate the rapid pace of development is not going to be a major issue in and of itself. But a number of key factors in implementing digital solutions are related to people. And while is relatively easy to change and adapt to new technology, people are not.

Many global companies start to realize their business will be mostly digital within the coming years, but not many are really interested in dealing with the digital transformation.

| #DigitalCitiZENship | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

» | #MIT #Sharing #Collaboration  | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

Music as a Teaching Tool | #ModernEDU #ModernLEARNing | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it
Many teachers shy away from including music in their classrooms because they presume they need musical training to use music as a teaching tool. However, there are multiple ways to implement music in the classroom that don’t require any training.

Classroom Strategies

In the early grades, transitions are a little harder to set because the students are still learning what the concept of a minute is and what one feels like. A song can improve transitions because it becomes a behavior cue: Students grow accustomed to the length of the song or part of a song and internalize the time they have to move on to the next task, which helps them begin to take responsibility for their own learning.

Rubiel's curator insight, November 20, 2017 11:43 AM
As educators, we want to appropriately challenge each students encouraging higher-order thinking while meeting state standards. Music is one tool to engage each student and provide a pathway for connections and deeper understanding. Songs have a lot of meaning packed into few words. Students’ own experiences are considered from the perspective of that meaning, and this helps create an environment where students will want to share what they are thinking and why. This leads into a personal drive to do research to understand what the author is referring to in the lyrics.

Make the Kitchen a Classroom | #STEM | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it
Each year, families spend a lot of time in the kitchen together during the holidays. These moments not only make happy memories, but can be teachable moments as well, where children can learn valuable knowledge about the world around them.

Cooking can be used as a creative way to engage kids in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), which touches many aspects of daily living. Finding the connections between the classroom and day-to-day life can inspire children and pique their interest in these subjects.

Cooking and baking can be enjoyable pastimes for kids and parents who incorporate science in fun, interactive ways, ranging from the basics of measurements to thermodynamics and beyond.

Jack Ma: the way we teach is going to make our kids lose jobs | #ModernEDU MUST #CHANGE | #FlippedMind

Jack Ma: the way we teach is going to make our kids lose jobs | #ModernEDU MUST #CHANGE | #FlippedMind | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

Jack Ma is optimistic about jobs in the age of AI and automation — but only if we start educating our children differently. Computers will always be better at calculating than we will, so we need to focus on service and creativity to be prepared.

“MADE IN INTERNET”

Jack Ma, founder and chairman of Alibaba, isn’t afraid of artificial intelligence (AI) or automation. Instead, he thinks we need to prepare in the right ways for the massive, disruptive changes these forces are precipitating.

“In the last 200 years, manufacturing [brought] jobs. But today, because of the artificial intelligence, because of the robots, manufacturing is no longer the main engine of creating jobs,” Ma said Wednesday at the Bloomberg Global Business Forum. “The service industry is going to be the main driver for job creation.”

ADAPTATION WILL CREATE JOBS

Ma’s not alone in this thinking; many experts feel that the way we currently teach children is ineffective, outdated, won’t prepare them for automation or STEM jobs, and renders higher learning inaccessible to too many. But when it comes to AI, Ma joins a debate that’s much more polarizing, with experts taking positions across the spectrum of opinion.

Hippes Crowdfunding | #ICT #Finances | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

‘Mind-Boggling’ Math Could Make Blockchain Work for Wall Street | #ICT  | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it
A major breakthrough in cryptography may have solved one of the biggest obstacles to using blockchain technology on Wall Street: keeping transaction data private.

Known as a “zero-knowledge proof,” the new code will be included in an Oct. 17 upgrade to the ethereum blockchain, adding a level of encryption that lets trades remain private. Previously, users were able to remain anonymous but transactions were verified by allowing everyone on the network to see them.

“Zero-knowledge proofs are one of the biggest inventions in the last two decades in cryptography,” said Emin Gun Sirer, an associate professor of computer science at Cornell University. It “will allow a slew of applications we can’t even imagine right now.”
