Vorwort zum Handbuch „Oh, wie cool! Oh, wie cool!“ hat ein 10jähriger Junge bei der offenen kreativen digitalen Werkstatt „Maker Days for Kids“1 in Bad Reichenhall im April 2015 mehrere Minuten lang immer wieder gewispert, als er seine selbstgebastelte VRBrille auf der Nase hatte und in die Tiefen der 3DWelten von Achterbahnen und JumpAndRunSpielen eintauchte. „Oh, wie schön“ dachten sicher etliche der Eltern, als sie bei der abschließenden Ausstellung die Acrylbilder bestaunten, die nicht nur aus Collagen von unterschiedlichen Materialien und Farbe entstanden sind, sondern die auch noch mit funkelnden LEDs bestückt waren.

Und irritiert waren wohl die Ehrengäste bei der Abschlusspräsentation der „Maker Days for Kids“, als sie auf einmal selbst der GameController waren, mit dem ein von Kindern programmiertes Spiel gelöst werden musste. Making, also das kreative Gestalten und Selbermachen, insbesondere mit digitalen Technologien, ist aufregend und spannend. Solche MakingAktivitäten faszinieren Kinder, Jugendliche und Erwachsene. Technisches Verständnis, kreatives Problemlösen, soziales Miteinander und handwerkliches Geschick werden dabei ganz nebenbei trainiert. Keine Frage, dass es für uns galt, die Erfahrungen der „Maker Days for Kids“ aufzubereiten, zu verbreiten und auch mit Erfahrungen von anderen MakingAktiven zu ergänzen.

Nach den „Maker Days for Kids“ war das der erste offene, kostenlose OnlineKurs zum „Making mit Kindern“ auf der Plattform iMooX.at im Herbst 2015. Mehr als 600 Teilnehmer/innen haben sich bis zum Februar 2016 am Kurs beteiligt. Die Projektbeschreibungen des Kurses wurden nun für dieses Handbuch ergänzt und mit weiteren Texten versehen.

Mettre en place un réseau WI-FI privé n’est pas toujours nécessaire quand vous êtes chez vous bien au chaud à proximité de votre Box et que votre activité numérique consiste principalement à consulter vos mails ou à surfer sur le net mais dans certains cas, cela peut s’avérer très utile. Prenons l’exemple de la domotique qui intéresse de plus en plus de personnes et qui permet de contrôler vos différents appareils électriques à l’aide d’une seule télécommande (ou de votre téléphone) via votre réseau. Dites vous bien que tous ces appareils doivent bien communiquer entre eux et que, dans l’idéal, une connexion sécurisée serait un plus indéniable.

The purpose of this essay is to present a grander vision of an educational system in which technology is used not in the form of machines for processing children but as something the child himself will earn to manipulate, to extend, to apply to projects, thereby gaining a greater and more articulate mastery of the world, a sense of the power of applied knowledge and a self-confidently realistic image of himself as an intellectual agent. Stated more simply, I believe with Dewey, Montessori, and Piaget that children learn by doing and by thinking about what they do. And so the fundamental ingredients of educational innovation must be better things to do and better ways to think about oneself doing these things.

I claim that computation is by far the richest known source of these ingredients. We can give children unprecedented power to invent and carry out exciting projects by providing them with access to computers, with a suitably clear and intelligible programming language and with peripheral devices capable of producing on-line real-time action.

Doch es gab auch heftige Bugs, die Millionen Menschen in ernsthafte Gefahr gebracht und einige sogar getötet haben. Denn der Software-Code wird von Menschen geschrieben und Menschen machen manchmal gravierende Fehler.

Now, a new Orange Pi model, dubbed the Orange Pi 2G-IoT, goes in the opposition direction on connectivity, giving builders a 2G antenna for Internet of Things applications, as well as offering wireless LAN and Bluetooth for a price of $10.

The Orange Pi 2G-IoT goes up against the recently released Raspberry Pi Zero W, which also costs $10, and offers wireless LAN and Bluetooth but not mobile network access.

The new Orange Pi board features a 1GHz ARM Cortex-A5 32-bit processor with a Vivante GC860 graphics processor, and 256MB RAM.

It also supports 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1, and features a Raspberry Pi-compatible 40-pin GPIO connector.

Other features include video and audio inputs and outputs, and USB 2.0 ports. The 2G antenna supports GSM/GPRS data connections and there's, of course, a slot to insert a SIM card.

The device can run Android, Ubuntu, Debian, or Raspberry Pi, according to the Orange Pi 2G-IoT listing on Aliexpress.

While the Orange Pi 2G-IoT costs the same as the Raspberry Pi Zero W, the Raspberry board has double the RAM, at 512MB.

The Raspberry Pi Foundation has unveiled a new model of the tiny computing board, the Raspberry Pi Zero W, which adds Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, priced at $10.

In November 2015 the Raspberry Pi Zero was released - a tiny $5 entry-level Raspberry Pi, cheap enough that the Foundation even gave it away free with its MagPi magazine (if you could managed to grab one quick enough). Since then the tiny board has been used in projects from miniature arcade cabinets to electric skateboards, but many of these projects need wireless connections which means adding a wireless dongle and that can easily cost more than the Zero.

The new Zero W uses the same Cypress CYW43438 wireless chip as Raspberry Pi 3 Model B to provide 802.11n wireless LAN and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity.

We saw tons of new stuff at CES this year. But one thing that particularly caught our eye was Kubo, the robot that teaches kids how to code.

Kubo is a pretty simple robot – it’s about the size of a can of soda and has two wheels that allow it to roll around a desk or table. But what it lacks in advanced physical ability it makes up for in brains.

Kubo comes with its own programming language called TagTile. The language consists of puzzle pieces that fit together to give Kubo instructions. For example, you could connect three pieces together – forward, turn, then another forward. Kubo then drives over these pieces oncer to “learn” the command, then can remember and perform it without needing the pieces.

Kubo reads the puzzle pieces using an RFID technology – each piece has an individual embedded RFID tag, and Kubo itself has a reader built in.

While it sounds simple, it’s a pretty good way to teach kids the basics of programming without having them stare at a screen.
