Microsoft is developing blockchain tech that lets you manage your digital identity | #Privacy

Microsoft is developing blockchain tech that lets you manage your digital identity | #Privacy  | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it
Microsoft is out to prove blockchain naysayers wrong. In an effort to show the potential of the technology beyond its applications in cryptocurrency, the Redmond giant has announced plans to use blockchain tech as the foundation for storing and processing digital identity data.

Following a collaboration with the Decentralized Identity Foundation (DIF), Microsoft has revealed its plans to rely on blockchain technology to solve some of the challenges we face when managing our identities and personal data digitally, such as improving privacy and security across the physical and digital world.

“We believe it is essential for individuals to own and control all elements of their digital identity,” the company said in a blog post. “Rather than grant broad consent to countless apps and services, and have their identity data spread across numerous providers, individuals need a secure, encrypted digital hub where they can store their identity data and easily control access to it.”

To this end, the company is developing an off-chain solution – akin to the Lightning Network – that will allow it to process massive volumes of ID data without congesting the blockchain network.

Vivalist's curator insight, February 16, 2018 6:32 AM
It's good to see big companies start to see the power of the blockchain logic beyond the overly advertized cryptocurrencies. The tech needs to be improved, but its potential for legal applications (smart contracts, digital citizenship, etc...) is real.

And in my opinion, it's the most interesting part of blockchain.

7 Personality Principles to Boost Office Productivity ===> ALSO #LEARNing Productivity

7 Personality Principles to Boost Office Productivity ===> ALSO #LEARNing Productivity | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it
Productivity at work is usually measured by how many emails you send, papers you write, phone calls you make, or things you check off a To-Do list. There are plenty of books you can read for techniques on improving your productivity, but I want to talk about the largely untapped Personality Factor that plays a huge role in how efficiently you work.

Even though individual personalities have a huge impact on how well a company functions, it is often a taboo subject. The exception is employees gossiping about one another, which further compounds the problem. A better solution for addressing personality quirks is to talk about them openly.

Oftentimes, a simple non-judgmental acknowledgement of an employee’s personality traits can be very comforting to other employees. This is very different than gossip. Once fully acknowledged, how to deal with the issue constructively usually becomes self-evident. Personality traits are too numerous to name, but with these seven fundamental principles, the door will be open for you to begin working on improving the productivity of your entire office.

L'algorithme - qu'est-ce que c'est ? | #BigData #ICT #Ethics

L'algorithme - qu'est-ce que c'est ? | #BigData #ICT #Ethics | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

3 ways content can light a fire under your list building strategy | #ContentCuration #Curation #SocialMedia #Blogs #Publishing #Marketing #ContentMarketing #ContentStrategy | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

Virtually every marketer has heard the phrase – “the money is in your list.” So why aren’t your email marketing campaigns gaining momentum? The two biggest reasons are:

The leads you attract aren’t very interested in your offer.
You aren’t generating enough traffic to your opt-in pages.
Refining your content marketing strategy can be the best way to address both of these problems. Here are some ways content can push your list building strategy into overdrive.

Build a personal brand

Why do people subscribe to your email list? It’s not necessarily because they think you will give them free stuff but rather VALUE. Depending on your business, that value may come in the form of monetary discounts or insight to help them in some way. Building your personal brand gives people the confidence to know that you are knowledgeable in a specific area and that there’s value in subscribing to your email list.

Find social platform. Are you a chef? You should be creating amazing Instagram posts of your food. Motivational speaker? Facebook videos should be your daily activity. Digital marketer? I should already be in your funnel.

Collaborate with other personal brands. While you’re making a name for yourself it’s critically important to collaborate with other personal brands to expedite your follower growth. Identify thought leaders in your space and create content together. If you’re a digital marketer, that could mean going on their podcast to share insights from recent campaigns that their audience will find valuable.

6 surprisingly simple ways to become a more confident writer | #Blogs #Blogging #Writing #Curation

6 surprisingly simple ways to become a more confident writer | #Blogs #Blogging #Writing #Curation | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it
There’s an epidemic sweeping through the content writing industry. People are spending more time curating other people’s content than crafting their own original pieces. In a world where it’s easy to simply grab something from someone else and share it with your audience, you may be falling prey to this dangerous trend.

You may assume that convenience is the primary issue; however, a lack of confidence may be to blame.

How a lack of confidence hurts your writing
Confidence is a fickle thing. One minute, you can have all the confidence in the world and the next moment it’s gone. There are so many different factors in play and the average person has a pretty poor outlook on their potential.

“Often people think of confidence as something that the lucky few are born with and the rest are left wishing for. Not true,” business consultant Margie Warrell assures people. “Confidence is not a fixed attribute; it’s the outcome of the thoughts we think and the actions we take. No more; no less. It is not based on your actual ability to succeed at a task but your belief in your ability to succeed.”

When you look at writing, in particular, this means confidence isn’t tied to your talent as a writer, but in your belief that you can be successful. Once you look at it through this lens, it becomes apparent that a lack of confidence can have a tremendously negative impact on your efforts.

5 ways content intelligence can make you a smarter marketer | #Press #Journalism #Publishers | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it
Does your content marketing need an upgrade?

If you’re like most content marketers, it does. Because many content marketers still struggle to get a positive return from their content marketing. And even the marketers who are getting good returns – they work hard for those results.

In fact, one of the reasons they’re doing well is because they’re always on the lookout for how to do things better.

Know why so many content marketers struggle? Well, because content marketing is hard.

You heard it. I said it. Content marketing is hard.

Here’s why:

You’ve got to understand your audience

Get smart about your business needs

Develop content that meets both the requirements of your business and of your audience

Plan all that content

Optimize all that content

Promote all that content

Measure all that content

Update and republish all that content

And plan more content based on what’s working
Rinse and repeat. Month after month.

The Blockchain Economy: A beginner’s guide to institutional cryptoeconomics | #Blockchain

The Blockchain Economy: A beginner’s guide to institutional cryptoeconomics

Chris Berg, Sinclair Davidson and Jason Potts are from the RMIT Blockchain Innovation Hub, the world’s first social science research centre into the economics, politics, sociology, and law of blockchain technology.

The blockchain is a digital, decentralised, distributed ledger.

Most explanations for the importance of the blockchain start with Bitcoin and the history of money. But money is just the first use case of the blockchain. And it is unlikely to be the most important.

It might seem strange that a ledger — a dull and practical document associated mainly with accounting — would be described as a revolutionary technology. But the blockchain matters because ledgers matter.

Learning doesn't have to be a "loner" experience.

Russian psychologist Lev Vygotsky suggested that knowledge is constructed through our interactions with others.
MOOCs (Massive Open Online Learning) leverage our inherent social needs by bringing people together to learn the same material in a virtual group. Students can express what they're feeling and experiencing with others in a shared space, making the learning journey more enjoyable and less daunting.

As people gain confidence, they often enjoy friendly competition with fellow learners to push themselves to compete exercises and assignments. Recognition is part of our need for building self-esteem—and some courses have gamification built in to reward student accomplishments and community helpfulness.

This is an interesting intro to social constructionism as it applies to eLearning.  I hope the MOOCs do what they suggest and are not just an attempt to throw jargon out there.

5 Examples of How Big Data Analytics in Healthcare Saves Lives | #ICT #STEM  | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

Big data analytics can play a crucial role in helping patients get healthcare at a lower cost.

Today, healthcare costs are much higher than they should be and have been growing steadily over the past 20 years. In fact, according to a study by McKinsey, healthcare expenses represent nearly 17.6% of United States’ GDP. Due to the rising cost of healthcare, it’s time to look at smart, data-driven ideas.

From autonomous cars to Internet of Things, big data has percolated almost every industry. It’s no surprise that the healthcare industry, with its large amount of data, is on the verge of big data-driven transformation, perhaps more than any other field.

Healthcare analytics has the potential to reduce treatment costs, predict outbreak of epidemics as well as preventable diseases and improve the quality of life. Here are 5 examples of how big data analytics in healthcare can help save lives.

The challenge of dwindling attention spans
There’s a well-recycled statistic out there that says the human attention span has dwindled from 12 seconds at the start of the century to less than 8 seconds today. And while some people argue the legitimacy of this data point, the reality is that attention spans certainly aren’t getting any better. The multisensory nature of the internet, social media, and other digital technologies is rewiring the human brain and making it harder for people to stay focused on singular tasks and objectives – both online and offline.

What is content curation?

Content curation. The term has been used to cover many different things. Most marketers are familiar with the practice of sharing other people’s content on social networks, what we’ll refer to as social content curation. Content curation actually covers much more than just social sharing, and can help your content marketing results in ways you don’t imagine.

Furthermore, content curation can help other departments of your company to share knowledge or reinforce training programs.
