If you've seen Gravity, you'll have noticed how a single piece of space debris can cause a cascade of destruction -- the Kessler effect -- that makes the entirety of space completely uninhabitable to spacecraft? Well, in the photo above, you can see the exit hole created by a tiny piece of aluminium space debris in a piece of Kevlar shielding -- the same shielding that protects the manned modules of the International Space Station. Space debris is serious stuff.

On Monday, during his "State of NASA" speech, administrator Charles Bolden announced that NASA will be selecting projects to accompany a probe to Jupiter's moon Europa.

Des astronomes ont découvert la première exoplanète de la taille de la Terre située en zone habitable 


Les astronomes et les astrophysiciens la cherchent comme le Saint Graal, cette planète qui, comme la nôtre, présenterait des conditions favorables à la vie - notamment la présence d’eau liquide à sa surface.


Quelques-unes des exoplanètes observées ces dernières années sont déjà sur les rangs, comme Gliese-851d ou Kepler-62f. C’est une nouvelle candidate que vient de découvrir une équipe internationale d’astronomes, dont trois chercheurs du Laboratoire d’Astrophysique de Bordeaux.


Non seulement Kepler-186f gravite dans la zone habitable de son étoile, mais elle est d’une taille presque identique à celle de la Terre, une première. De part sa dimension, elle a toutes les chances d’être une planète rocheuse. Une condition sine qua non pour que de l’eau liquide puisse exister à sa surface.

Non seulement Kepler-186f gravite dans la zone habitable de son étoile, mais elle est d’une taille presque identique à celle de la Terre, une première.
