Nanotechnology researchers produce new anti-cancer drug from turmeric

The compound is made of curcumin found in the extract of turmeric, and has desirable physical and chemical stability and prevents the proliferation of cancer cells. In this drug, curcumin with high efficiency (approximately 87%) was loaded in the polymeric nanocarrier, and it created a spherical structure with the size of 140 nm.

The drug has high physical and chemical stability. The drug was used successfully in laboratory conditions in the treatment of a type of aggressive tumor in the central nervous system, called glioblastoma (GBM).

Percée majeure pour développer de nouveaux médicaments anticancéreux | 21st Century Innovative Technologies and Developments as also discoveries, curiosity ( insolite)... | Scoop.it

| Scoop.it

.

High-tech glasses developed at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis may help surgeons visualize cancer cells, whichglow blue when viewed through the eyewear.

The wearable technology, so new it’s yet unnamed, was used during surgery for the first time today at Alvin J. Siteman Cancer Centerat Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine.
Cancer cells are notoriously difficult to see, even under high-powered magnification. The glasses are designed to make it easier for surgeons to distinguish cancer cells from healthy cells, helping to ensure that no stray tumor cells are left behind during surgery.

Team develops new technique to track cell interactions in living bodies

Team develops new technique to track cell interactions in living bodies | 21st Century Innovative Technologies and Developments as also discoveries, curiosity ( insolite)... | Scoop.it
Researchers at Stanford University School of Medicine have developed a new technique to see how different types of cells interact in a living mouse.

The process uses light-emitting proteins that glow when two types of cells come close together.

Using the technique, the team was able to pinpoint where in the body metastatic cancer cells ended up after they broke off from an initial tumor site, using readily available lab reagents. The team chose chemicals that are easily available in most life sciences laboratories because they wanted to develop a technique that could be widely used.
