10 Pros And Cons Of A Flipped Classroom

10 Pros And Cons Of A Flipped Classroom | Moodle and Web 2.0 | Scoop.it
The main goal of a flipped classroom is to enhance student learning and achievement by reversing the traditional model of a classroom, focusing class time on student understanding rather than on lecture. To accomplish this, teachers post short video lectures online for students to view at home prior to the next class session. This allows class time to be devoted to expanding on and mastering the material through collaborative learning exercises, projects, and discussions.

The Flipped Classroom Model: A Full Picture

The Flipped Classroom Model: A Full Picture | Moodle and Web 2.0 | Scoop.it
Due to Khan Academy's popularity, the idea of the flipped classroom has gained press and credibility within education circles. Briefly, the Flipped Classroom as described by Jonathan Martin is: Flip your instruction so that students watch and listen to your lectures… for homework, and then use your precious class-time for what previously, often, was done…

"The advantage of the flipped classroom is that the content, often the theoretical/lecture-based component of the lesson, becomes more easily accessed and controlled by the learner."

I think that this scoop relates to our readings this week because it talks about The ability to obtain, assimilate and apply the right knowledge effectively, will become a key skill in the next century. Our ability will no longer be judged solely by qualifications gained in the past, but will also be assessed by our capacity to learn and adapt in the future.

Patricia Stitson's curator insight, March 4, 2015 2:48 PM

Point taken - in fact I thought that the given was that the flipped classroom style encouraged more active learning in class - where the teacher could mentor and where they were learning with their collaborators.

What is lacking for me in this article is retention level and what they are learning while they are learning.  Are they just learning the skills and facts or are they also learning how collaborate with other using the facts.  Did they just test once for these 'learning outcomes' mentioned or will retention be longterm.

I guess I need to read the study!

EDpuzzle has an online classroom component that you can use to assign videos to students and track their progress through your video lessons. In the video embedded below I demonstrate how to use the main features of EDPuzzle.
