Moodle Feedback Activity for Mid-Module Evaluation

Moodle Feedback Activity for Mid-Module Evaluation | Moodle and Web 2.0 | Scoop.it
As part of the new mid-module evaluation process a regular, planned, timetabled, collaborative mid-module review should be regarded as standard and best practice and undertaken by all module leaders for each module. The style of mid-module review is up to the module leader, it should suit the module style, location and student group, and should be facilitated in collaboration with students. Formats could vary from online feedback (using Moodle/TextWall/Google Forms etc.), a ‘conversational’ approach, quick ‘Stop-Start-Continue’ feedback, questions from an agreed broad framework, written post-it feedback or a student representative focus group. The approach chosen would reflect the learning approach of the student group and module ‘style’ and the ethos and nature of the course.

One approach might be to use the Feedback activity in Moodle. The Feedback module allows you to create and conduct surveys to collect feedback. Unlike the Survey tool it allows you to write your own questions, rather than choose from a list of pre-written questions and unlike the Quiz tool, you can create non-graded questions. The Feedback activity is ideal for module or programme evaluations, and student responses can be set to ‘Anonymous’.

Feedback activity is available in Moodle core whereas the Questionnaire plugin is a contributed one.

Although similar in nature, the plugin have some basic differences like:

* You can use the Questionnaire plugin to encourage the students to complete a questionnaire. You may choose to award the student a grade upon completion. Whereas the feedback activity is not graded.

* Questionnaire allows to Save and resume the answers. This feature allows the users to leave the questionnaire unfinished and resume from the saved point at a later time.

* The other difference is the question types supported

Organizing Descriptive Feedback with Google Forms

Organizing Descriptive Feedback with Google Forms | Moodle and Web 2.0 | Scoop.it
By creating a Google Form to record students’ descriptive feedback for each subject, every single comment is in one spreadsheet and I can simply sort the sheet or filter it by name to see only one child’s feedback. This is unbelievably helpful when generating strengths and next steps for report card comments.
