Combine inexpensive mobile technology with the archived course content available right now, add translation software and satellite bandwidth and the possibility of reaching across the globe into the most remote spots on the planet becomes real.

Just a hint in this link, but the imbedded link on a remote African town is mind blowing. MOOCs make lives better for those with the self-guided learning skills needed to learn independently.

Mobile learning is an exciting concept across many industries, however for future generations it will be the expectation. In fact, the young people of today have never known a world without internet, laptops, iPads and the like.

While there is still a large population who are part of the “digital divide” (i.e. people that can remember life before internet and digital technologies), the up-and-coming generation appears to have mobile learning as very much part of their psyche.

Using traditional instructional templates for mLearning or forcing old eLearning courses into mobile devices is like standing on the peak of a high mountain and just looking at the ground under your feet. If you don’t dare to raise your eyes and look beyond the obvious, you will miss the whole landscape; you will miss the full potential of that single, unique experience.

Mobile learning is becoming increasingly popular in the workplace. There are a variety of reasons for this, but many have to do with the accessibility of mobile devices, the savings associated with a mobile enabled learning program, and the convenience mobile learning affords the learner.

David Thornburg:

The fact is that the Chromebook emerged as a wild card in a field that never seems to stop and catch its breath.  Does this relegate tablets to the storage closets?  Of course not.  It merely suggests that we need to base our purchasing decisions on the best information we have at the time.  And, make no mistake about it, there will be something someday that eclipses the Chromebook.  This just reinforces the importance of ensuring that whatever purchase we make is based on the actually utility of the device to kids in support of their learning.  As long as we do that, we are on solid ground.

Some typical dilemmas for mobile developers include:

For optimum user experience, an app should be developed to target a specific mobile platform (e.g., iOS), but for maximum portability of the content it should not.For maximum portability of content, the best technical solution is to use a Web app (hosted online), but this excludes all the best phone features (native menus, camera, GPS, other apps, etc.).For the best mLearning experience, users need to be able to work offline, but for integration with traditional eLearning systems, the information needs to sync online.

Routine tasks and prolonged working hours can decrease the attention of your employees towards potential hazards. Therefore, the training on safety measures should be reinforced regularly, so that they can be cautious. For such type of reinforcement of training, eLearning or mobile learningwould be ideal.
