Google Maps and Google Cultural Institute

Anna Sasaki's curator insight, March 22, 2015 3:16 AM

Google maps has recently introduced the virtual exploration of over 30 Indian heritage sites on Google maps with the support of various organizations to do so. This has undoubtedly broadened the access to the culture in India to the entire world for an in depth tour of these various cultural institutes. This globalization may diminish some boundaries between cultures as globalization brings knowledge to others of people who may be different than them.

This article and event in which Google partakes in directly relates to globalization and the the effects of technology on culture. Globalization is irrefutably occurring though this free access of cultural heritage sites in India. The effects of technology on culture is prominent as there is cultural diffusion somewhat through the internet as the Google maps provides more ideas and views on India and its culture.

A free and open world depends on a free and open Internet. Governments alone, working behind closed doors, should not direct its future. The billions of people around the globe who use the Internet should have a voice.

Google has never been a company to rest on its laurels. Over the past two decades, the search engine giant has continued surprising, delighting, and serving its users with new features, layouts, and inner workings. Not all of these features have been successful, but it’s never long before a disliked feature is improved, replaced, or modified.

12 Fabulous Academic Search Engines ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | Digital Collaboration and the 21st C. | Scoop.it

In the world of academia, Google search engine does not always serve the purpose because most of the time its search results are not exact . I am a huge fan of Google but when it comes to academic search queries I  often have recourse to other search engines that are area or content specific. I have curated a list of some of these search engines that I personally use and I added to them other titles I found through Julie Greller . Enjoy
