These 27 questions will help you (really) know your learners | A New Society, a new education! | Scoop.it
What’s the point of creating a course that no one wants?

No point at all, right?

YET, we find hundreds of eLearning designers creating courses that nobody wants. Courses which the designers themselves can’t figure: who would want!

It should ALWAYS be the other way around.

Designers must first understand their target audience and then build content around their needs, circumstances, limitations, preferences, and wants. This means that one must move beyond the common descriptions handed out by SMEs, the manager, or even the client.

Hence, this post where I will talk about empathy mapping — an intuitive, yet highly powerful framework that uses a set of questions that puts you in your audience’s shoes. It is a great way for engaging with SMEs as well as performing your own research.

20 classroom setups that promote thinking

20 classroom setups that promote thinking | A New Society, a new education! | Scoop.it

This is part 1 in our #iteachthought campaign. This is our equivalent to “back to school,” and is intended to help you focus in the 2015-2016 school year on taking a thoughtful approach to your craft as a teacher. Among these shifts we’ll talk about is turning our focus from content and teaching to thinkers and thinking. This is a student-centered approach to pedagogy (and heautagogy), and will consist of four parts:

  • Part 1: Classroom Setups That Promote Thinking
  • Part 2: Learning Profiles: What Great Teachers Know About Their Students
  • Part 3: 50 Questions To Ask Your Students On The First Day Of School
  • Part 4: Getting The Best Work From Your Students

The ultimate guide to using iPads in the classroom

The ultimate guide to using iPads in the classroom | A New Society, a new education! | Scoop.it

Before we explore the many different ways educators can use iPads with their students, let’s first talk about the benefits of giving students hands on access to this technology.

Since iPads were released in 2010, numerous studies have examined the impact of their usage in schools. Some of the results include:

  • A study on kindergarteners in Maine that found that those who used iPads got higher scores on tests of literacy, and showed more excitement about learning than those who didn’t use the devices.
  • In Houston, researchers found that 8th graders who used a digital iBook for studying math at home instead of using a traditional hardcover as part of a flipped classroom scored 49% higher in proficiency than their counterparts.
  • Teachers at a Minnesota elementary school found that their kids with special needs, even those who were severely disabled, were more engaged and experience accelerated learning when they used iPads.
  • Research through the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics found that the iPad helped students understand scientific concepts that were often difficult to explain, such as the size of the universe.

Via Maria Vanessa Amesty, Dr. Doris Molero
juandoming's insight:

My team was made up by Adriana Bolivar, Daniela Franchi, Claudia Montiel and Me Maria Vanessa Amesty.

Daniela, Claudia and I made the illustration of the history and Adriana illustrated the part of exercise and credits.

This activity was made on Illustrator, this is a software of design. Then we get the images and united them with the text, we use colors and elements a little bit vintage, because this is how we imagined the history ;), we try to illustrate the most important parts and we made it in a way more easy for understand it.

My part of the history was chapter 7, this part talks about a mistake with a shoes... and how life can change in one simple moment. The work of this guy was made a couple of shoes mmm fancy? but he did it wrong, he made a slippers?! and when he notice, the client died... definitely life can change...

These work was really joyfull and definitely a work you need to do in team haha ;) here you can see all the illustrations of this group

Teachers as Technology Trailblazers: The Magic Ingredient for Professional Learning

Teachers as Technology Trailblazers: The Magic Ingredient for Professional Learning | A New Society, a new education! | Scoop.it
Good professional learning matters. A lot.

Exposure to effective, empowered adult learning experiences is a powerful prerequisite when it comes to the creation of positive, relevant learning designs for kids.

However, changing the "look and feel" of professional learning in your region or district can be daunting. What if people don't like it? What if they don't get it? It's easy to be plagued with anxiety, and it's even easier to abandon more innovative designs in favor of more traditional ones.

However, there's a magical ingredient that can make any innovative PD session less scary: POSITIVE PEOPLE.
