This newsletter talking about Golf industry which is clearly empowered currently by a deep digital transformation. This change is proceed by multiple and various ways but the overall impact is massive. It is the case for playing apps, travel booking offer, golf material purchase and since some couple of years tee time booking. Very interesting to understand how this important wave will totally change current business model for golf course. Series of benchmark are available between booking.com and hotel chains. Interesting to see what could be the best balance between opportunities and risks for them. Golf now is probably the most advance software players in that dimension. Let's see how the wave could grow and bring added value to the whole value chain.

Are tee-time brokers like GolfNow knocking cash-strapped courses into the rough? Or could the Expedia-like providers be the chip shot courses need to get back on the green? “People have pretty strong opinions on both sides of this issue,” said Mike David, executive director of the Indiana Section of the PGA. “The battle lines are so firmly drawn, it’s caused quite a bit of friction in this industry locally and nationally.” In many ways, GolfNow is doing for courses and golfers what online sites Orbitz . . .

GolfNow users played 12 more rounds of golf per year than those who didn’t use the service.

 

+ Findings : “It’s helped me find courses nearby I never knew existed,”

+ Time saving : I can do on a computer in 10 minutes what it used to take me an hour to do by phone.”

 

That has also created a nasty cycle :

  • The more a course discounts, the more it drags everyone down
  • Losing control

 

nb : Rounds booked through GolfNow escalated from 2.4 million in 2008 to 15 million last year, according to industry experts.
