8 Twitter Best Practices

8 Twitter Best Practices | Web 2.0 for juandoming | Scoop.it
Of all the popular social media channels, I’d say that Twitter is probably the most intimidating. But once you learn its unique language of tweets, hashtags, and handles, Twitter opens up a world of opportunities to promote your cause or business.

How can a social media guru help educate students, faculty & families. Social Communities

How can a social media guru help educate students, faculty & families. Social Communities | Web 2.0 for juandoming | Scoop.it
In today’s day and age, we often look towards the younger generations for advice on how to use technology. Having trouble with your new smart phone? Ask any teenager on the block, they can give you a demo.

Here are four things that schools can do to educate students, families and faculty on proper social media usage, and serve as a go-to resource for their communities:

1.    Set a Social Media Policy for the School

2.    Designate a Social Media “Guru”

3.    Hold Social Media Workshops for the Students and Parents

4.    Offer “Social Media Tutoring”

This is a great article and every school should follow that example!

The basic idea here is to keep your community educated and informed. The more you know and can share with your constituents, the better it is for the entire community.

Zurker - a new social network with a difference

Zurker - a new social network with a difference | Web 2.0 for juandoming | Scoop.it

Zurker - a new social network:

http://www.zurker.net/i-271732-iaxgtugifc

My first reaction - "do we need yet another social network?"

After reading about the philosophy of Zurker, my answer was "yes" - because it is one that is owned by the network members and responsive to needs of the network members, rather than being a centralized, corporate, profit-oriented, juggernaut.

Zurker is literally a member-owned application.  You actually get shares in the company and so can profit from its growth.

And Zurker is driven by democracy. It's new - and still developing. Instead of changes being introduced top-down (whether you wanted the change or not) Zurker seeks out your ideas and feedback, so that their development team can develop the social application most in tune with what users actually want.

And it's free, of course.  Check it out here:

Study Reveals that Twitter users often Retweet without reading or clicking links

Study Reveals that Twitter users often Retweet without reading or clicking links | Web 2.0 for juandoming | Scoop.it
If you’ve been on Twitter long enough and use the social platform to share content from your blog or website, and have built a certain level of authority and expertise, after a while you’ll begin to notice automated sharing and retweets of your stuff, often from the same sources. This can be great for traffic and awareness, but it’s a pretty hollow stamp of approval, as your content has obviously been passed on blind.

Steve Tuffill's comment, November 12, 2012 5:51 PM
And if the poster uses the command, "Retweet" rather than "RT", the retweet rate increases twelve-fold...! Remember, less than 100 chars means +17% engagement, too. More than 2 +hashtags reduces this again by 17%!

If you are still struggling to find ideas on how to use this social networking site with your students then you don`t need to go any further, the guide below is more than enough for you. I am recommending it for both starters and experienced Twitter users and I am pretty sure you will love it as much as I did. Twitter is a fantastic tool. I'm using with my class. We have a secure account so not everyone can see us but we can see that is happening in the world. The children love sharing their work on Twitter. We are linked with parents and other classes. The discussions we have around approriate material to put on Twitter and who we should accept as our followers is a real world experience for the students
