The report highlights the Smart Readiness Indicator (SRI) testing phase in 16 countries: after the initial launches in 2021 in Austria, the Czech Republic, Denmark, and France, Croatia and Finland joined in 2022, followed by Slovenia and Spain in 2023, and then Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Germany, Poland, and Portugal in 2024. This year, Italy began its own pilot phase, coordinated by the Ministry of Environment and ENEA, with assessments underway and a plan to complete at least 30 non-residential buildings by February 2026. In total, more than one thousand properties have already been analysed across the EU, generating valuable data to refine the methodology and guide future implementation.

"To understand the relationship between AI and smart technology, let me start with a metaphor: AI functions as the brain, while smart technology serves as the body. The brain (AI) thinks, processes, and decides, while the body (smart technology) carries out actions and interacts with the physical world.
Many articles in this issue are related to the project Brains4Buildings, which was running in the Netherlands in the period 2022 – 25."
