Three areas we should take into consideration when approaching cross media projects this year: 1. Companies need stories too 2. Let’s help people scratch their own itches 3. Think beyond the screen, to real-life interaction

There is an old but still pertinent argument that storytelling in video games is the last great bastion for the medium to conquer. That game developers working in the 'mainstream space' have traditionally struggled to utilise video games as a storytelling medium, struggled to harmonise play and Hollywood-like narratives, and struggled to inject real meaning into their games without rendering the player a frustrated passive participant. Transnarrative is the framework to create a world of places and objects that talks to us in a meaninful way.

Yes. When the author says "Every location or object will contain massive amounts of recorded information ready for playback." I agree totally. We are NOT talking about far-future: we have the technologies to do it now.

The article explore the differences between the two "mediums". Stressing the fact that "VR’s biggest strength is also its greatest weakness. The immersive nature of VR hinders users from interacting with their surroundings. [It] has already started to revolutionize the way we watch content, but will never be the technology we turn to in our everyday lives." Whereas AR brings layers of info on our daily lives, the tech has not delivered yet due to the issue of visualization. But "Microsoft is working on HoloLens AR headset glasses. Developer kits are scheduled to hit the market in early 2016. Google invested in a company called Magic Leap, whose technology beams lasers into the viewer’s iris to activate AR. That future will become a reality in another year’s time."

Many of us go about our lives constantly surrounded by screens, immersed in various "stories": movies, TV shows, books, plot-driven video games, news articles, advertising, and more. Whether we realize it or not, we're creating new behaviors, routines, mindsets, and expectations around what we watch, read or play—which in turn presents new challenges and opportunities for creators and marketers.

The Internet has given storytelling a new lease of life. The web series has given life to a new breed of film production, social networks have given us the ability to freely interact online with others, whether they are people, or companies and augmented reality has given us the chance to interact with characters and objects. Here is a great artikel worth reading if you have anything to do with storytelling or just love it. @safegaard
