Le Département de Langues Modernes Appliquées et le Centre des Industries de la Langue de la Faculté des Lettres de l’Université Babeş-Bolyai Cluj-Napoca (Roumanie) se font un plaisir de vous inviter, vendredi le 12 octobre 2012, au colloque international consacré aux professions de la traduction et de l’interprétation de conférence organisé annuellement en collaboration avec l’Université Otto-Friedrich de Bamberg (Allemagne) à l’occasion de l’ouverture des cours du Master Européen de Traductologie-Terminologie (METT), du Master Européen en Interprétation de Conférence (MEIC), et du Centre pour les Industries de la Langue (CIL)

Interinstitutional meeting of Czech terminologists and translators

On Wednesday, 23 May 2012, the Translation Centre hosted an interinstitutional meeting of Czech terminologists and translators. The meeting was attended by representatives from eight institutions: the Council of the European Union, the European Parliament, the European Commission, the Court of Auditors, the Court of Justice, the Joint Czech Translation Service operating in the Committee of the Regions and the European Economic and Social Committee, the Publications Office of the European Union, and the Translation Centre.

RITerm 2012. XIII IberoAmerican Symposium of Terminology, RITerm 2012

PRESENTACIÓN
In line with the specific objective of the Iberoamerican Terminology Network (RITerm) and previous symposia, the 13th edition of the Ibero-American Symposium of Terminology organizes this edition focusing on research conducted in the context of terminology, translation and the technologies of information and communication technology (ICT).

The next RITerm Symposium, to be held at the University of Alicante on 25, 26 and 27 October 2012, will cover eight thematic panels that will address various issues related to theoretical and applied aspects of terminology, translation and ICT. Of particular interest will be those dealing with multiple applications and implications of these disciplines in the context of Web 2.0, also called 'the social web' .
hat is why we have chosen as the title for this symposium the of "Terminology, Translation and ICT: Social Interaction and Collaborative Work for the Construction and Dissemination of Knowledge".

Polish Seminar on Terminology for three European Institutions

The inter-institutional meeting of Terminology and Law-Linguistics – organised on the initiative of the Polish Unit for the European Parliament, Commission and Council – took place yesterday with huge success.

It was the 17th meeting and the Terminology Coordination Unit of the European Parliament represented by our Head of Unit, Rodolfo Maslias, participated with a presentation about the general nature of terminology and the specific work of the unit.

Culture-bound terminology and the process of harmonization: Research questions and methodologies | Toegepaste Taalkunde

Recent approaches in terminology theory question the functionality and usefulness of standardization. The effort to eliminate polysemy and synonymy in terminology in order to achieve the unrealistic ideal of univocity and unambiguous communication has been shown to interfere with natural language processes.

Still, both the standardization of terminology by an authoritative body and the democratic negotiation process of harmonization can be important, e.g.:

for the transmission of scientific and technical knowledge in a particular linguistic community,
for the development of smaller languages in a variety of scientific, technological and formal domains and communicative settings,
for the development of an international or global overarching legal order (Tsakona 2007).
